South Dakota Rejects Chance to Stop Abortion Twice

It seems South Dakotans have for the second time in two years rejected the opportunity to end nearly all abortions in the state.

The final numbers from the South Dakota Secretary of State show voters rejected Initiated Measure 11 55.21%-44.79%.

I suppose we learned something yesterday: lies and deceptions do work when the people are uninformed and unwilling to seek out answers for themselves. Of course, it helps, too, when those lies and deceptions are unopposed by a functioning moral compass.

In 2006, when pro-abortionists opposed Referred Law 6, the cry was "We need exceptions for rape, incest and the health of the mother."

In 2006, pro-lifers returned with a bill that contained just that.

Pro-abortionists realized they had run out of semi-rational arguments, so they resorted to lies, deception and rare cases to carry the day.

We saw a vocal minority within the medical community ram-rod its agenda on the majority of life-saving doctors.

We saw pro-abortionists use medical care intended to save children in the womb used as a deception to continue killing children in the womb for no good reason.

We saw saw pro-abortion feminists arguing against efforts to prosecute rapists...all to keep abortion as retroactive birth control legal.

We saw liberals who normally cheer government involvement in everything from the car you drive to how you use your own land to what you do with your money...employ the mantra of "government interference" to sour people to saving lives (ignoring that government already interfered in 1973 when unelected judges manufactured law and forced legalized abortion on the states and the people).

It looks like we learned another thing during this election: there is no abortion the pro-abortion community is willing to ban. There is no "bad" abortion to the pro-abortion community. There is no "unnecessary" abortion to the pro-abortion community.

We learned that there is no compromise with the pro-abortion forces. We learned once and for all that they will accept and settle for nothing less than unrestricted abortion on demand for any reason whatsoever; "I didn't want it" is quite sufficient justification to kill an innocent human being.

And since they convinced the majority of South Dakotans, we will continue having over 700 dead children every year.

Because even exceptions for rape, incest, the health of the mother and the life of the mother are not good enough for pro-abortionists, we will continue having 84.6% or more of abortions done because "The mother did not desire to have the child."

God set before us a clear choice long ago:

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Yesterday South Dakotans chose death. We chose death over life.

I fear we have also chosen curses over blessings.

When that dark bill comes, what form it takes and how much it exacts, I have no way of knowing. I hope I'm not around to see the bill collector arrive. But somehow, I think the bill will come due sooner rather than later.

We made a clear choice with our eyes open (or willfully squeezed shut) yesterday. We made our bed, but sooner or later we're going to find that it isn't very comfortable.

The pro-life community has suffered a great setback. But the pro-life community will not give up; we will be back.

Just as the abolitionists in centuries past refused to give up on the God-given rights of the most powerless in society, so the pro-life community will not give up on the most powerless among us today.

Eventually we will win. Eventually people will see the humanity of preborn children and recognize it for what it is.

For today we live with lies and worship the god of sexual license and the god of convenience. But not forever.
