Video: Are the Needs of Kids or Adults More Important?

"Ten Persuasive Answers to the Question 'Why not gay marriage?'"

Q9: Are the Needs of Kids or Adults More Important?

Point 1: Is same-sex marriage about the needs of children, or the wants of adults?

Point 2:"The history of divorce in our society is replete with unwarranted assumptions that adults have made about children simply because such assumptions are congenial to adult needs and wishes." - Judith Wallerstein, "The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce", 2000

Point 3: The man who seeks a trophy wife, and the homosexual couple, are a lot alike: both want what they want, and expect everyone else to make adjustments.

Point 4: No society anywhere has been able to sustain itself with a buffet-like mentality to family

If a mother chooses not to marry (or remarry, if her husband has died), she is effectively denying her child access to a father figure. This is perfectly legal, and Christians don't seem to be lining up to outlaw it with the same consistent and vociferous antipathy that they show toward gay people. Should single parents be forced to marry? If so, under what penalty?

Also, I had to laugh when the speaker said that homosexual couples expect everyone else to make adjustments. This is ironic coming from a Christian, someone who expects the world -- Jews, Muslims, Hindus, wiccans, Buddhists, atheists, agnostics, skeptics, etc. -- to abandon their beliefs and worldviews and conform to Christian doctrine. Saying that someone will burn in hell forever unless he changes his entire outlook on life calls for some pretty big lifestyle adjustments, ones that are a little more complicated and presumptuous than a gay couple expecting to be treated equally under the law, dontcha think?
