According to Al Gore and his acolytes, anthropogenic global warming is "settled science" and the is consensus in the scientific community. You believe that, right?
Think again.

EDMONTON - Only about one in three Alberta earth scientists and engineers believe the culprit behind climate change has been identified, a new poll reported today.
The expert jury is divided, with 26 per cent attributing global warming to human activity like burning fossil fuels and 27 per cent blaming other causes such as volcanoes, sunspots, earth crust movements and natural evolution of the planet.
A 99-per-cent majority believes the climate is changing. But 45 per cent blame both human and natural influences, and 68 per cent disagree with the popular statement that "the debate on the scientific causes of recent climate change is settled."
The divisions showed up in a canvass of more than 51,000 specialists licensed to practice the highly educated occupations by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
"We're not surprised at all," APEGGA executive director Neil Windsor said today. "There is no clear consensus of scientists that we know of."
I guess this majority of scientists who aren't sold on man-caused global warming will just have to join the thousands of other scientists who aren't sold...that Al Gore and his disciples pretend don't exist.
Couldn't be that star in the middle of our solar system heating things up. Couldn't be a natural climate cycle. No sir. It has to be man-caused because we hate capitalism, and we hate the West, and because we say so.
That's today's "science."

I have no way of knowing if the phenomenon is universal, but in my limited experience it seems that many of the controversial issues of our times divide people into generally polarized camps.
If I know what a person's beliefs are about one subject (climate change, evolution, homosexuals, war on terrorism, patriotism, faith in God, role of government, gun rights, etc.) I can predict pretty accurately their opnions on others. This is not about how smart we are or how well educated. It has to do with our world view.
This seems particularly true on the issue of global warming. Gore and his acolytes want us to accept their pronouncements because that would advance their real agenda of greater political and economic control of the masses. They don't blame global warming on China or India or countries in South America. There is only one culprit that must be brought to heel--the United States. Even if they had the scientific argument on their side (which the clearly don't), their anti-America sentiments alone give me reason to be suspicious of their motives.
Rush Limbaugh said 15 years ago that environmentalism is the new home of Marxists and other eletists on the Left. That becomes more evident year by year.
Specifically, the "consensus" about anthropogenic climate change entails the following:
1) the climate is undergoing a pronounced warming trend beyond the range of natural variability;
2) the major cause of most of the observed warming is rising levels of the greenhouse gas CO2;
3) the rise in CO2 is the result of burning fossil fuels;
4) if CO2 continues to rise over the next century, the warming will continue; and
5) a climate change of the projected magnitude over this time frame represents potential danger to human welfare and the environment.
