Today the South Dakota Senate voted 21-12 to stop SB 74, the bill to undermine South Dakota’s ban on embryonic stem cell research. Those who voted for the bill: Senators Dempster, Heidepriem, Knudson, Turbak Berry, Adelstein, Jerstad, Nelson, Vehle, Hundstad, Merchant, Nesselhuf, and Tieszen. Read more »

Embryonic Stem Cell Vote Expected in SD Senate Wednesday

SB 74 has been amended in a desperate effort to gain some access to the product of embryonic stem cell research, and a vote in the South Dakota Senate is expected Wed. Feb. 3. The bill no longer calls for an outright repeal of the ban on ESCR in South Dakota, but would allow treatments derived from ESCR elsewhere to be brought into South Dakota. The bill is still practically unnecessary and morally reprehensible. Read more »

A bill has been introduced in the South Dakota legislature to repeal South Dakota’s ban on embryonic stem cell therapy and human cloning. But this line of research has produced no successes, while adult stem cell research has produced dozens of successful therapies for suffering people.
