The Dakota Voice publishes a print edition monthly, and will have updated material on this website continually (not all of our print material will be available online, and vice versa).

We will cover the issues, people and politics of South Dakota, featuring some of the stories that other news outlets don't, and aspects of those stories that others don't.  Dakota Voice is read in over 60 South Dakota towns.

Some of what we feature in our print edition:

  • "Grains of Truth"

  • "Heard Along the Highway" items

  • Recaps of recent state legislative and U.S. congressional activity, including how your state and local representatives voted.

  • A calendar of Christian events.  According to the American Religious Identification Survey, 87% of South Dakotans identify themselves as Christians.  Therefore, the Dakota Voice presents a calendar of Christian events that are open to the public and have appeal across church and denominational lines.  To make sure your event gets on our calendar, write us or email us with all the details.

  • “That Couldn’t Happen In America.”  Tidbits that illustrate how life in America—and South Dakota—isn’t what it used to be (or should be).

  • Reader tips.  If know of news that isn’t getting covered, or isn’t getting covered thoroughly, the Dakota Voice wants to know about it.

  • Votes from your South Dakota congressional delegation

  • Notable quotables.  Quotes from people you’ll recognize that showcase relevant truths or denials of reality.

We are serious sometimes, with satire, ridicule, sarcasm and wit at other times.

Sometimes that kind of thing is called for.  Elijah, one of God’s prophets,  mocked some rival prophets, suggesting their unresponsive god might be deep in thought, asleep, or maybe gone to the bathroom.  Even the Son of God Himself sometimes cast decorum to the wind, for example when he mocked “whitewashed tombs” and “snakes” who “strain[ed] at gnats but swallow[ed] a camel.”  In our world gone crazy, which often embraces the nuttiest ideas, ridicule is sometimes the best response to lunacy.

There is also a time for telling it like it is.  Jesus didn’t mince words when he said, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.”  At times, the Dakota Voice may be that blunt.

The Dakota Voice is based in Rapid City, South Dakota and serves the entire state of South Dakota...
