Does President Obama really believe if he talks deficit reduction while proposing the biggest budget with the biggest deficit in history anyone is going to fall for it? The question comes to mind, how dumb does he think we are?

A strong majority of the American public has decided that it doesn’t want the kind of change President Obama is trying to shove down its throat, and no amount of rhetorical flourish is going to change its mind. America is looking for a very different kind of change–one they can actually believe in.

For several months, CNS News has been doing the yeoman’s work (the work the “mainstream” media won’t do) of challenging our representatives on Capitol Hill about the constitutionality of socialized health care. Their efforts have revealed some pretty interesting, and pretty pathetic, responses.

The resulting combination of big-government policies and self-righteous, reckless leadership will be the demise of progressive Democrats. They will be challenged at every turn by fiscal and social conservatives running for office. If they cannot learn how profoundly out of touch with America they are, they will go down.

Currently there are several bills in the South Dakota legislature opposed to the current federal attempt to take over health care in America. These included SB 137, SCR 1 and HJR 1001. On Monday, SCR1 passed the state Senate 22-10, and now goes to the state House for consideration.

Pro-gay activists and church leaders are touting an alternative “inclusive” prayer event to this year’s National Prayer Breakfast. Called “The American Prayer Hour,” the event on Feb. 4 is being held in protest of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill. Organizers claim that the “secretive fundamentalist organization” – The Fellowship Foundation, also known as The Family – behind the annual National Prayer Breakfast is directly tied to the bill.

Socialists in congress and in the White House may be intent on forcing government health care on the people of America, but the states are no longer the door mats our despotic federal government has become accustomed to. More than 2/3 of the states are moving to nullify government health care, and South Dakota is moving forward with three bills in the legislature to resist this.

Scott Brown of Massachusetts may have taken away the Democrats’ filibuster-proof Senate majority, but the Republican Sen.-elect isn’t your typical conservative. He says he’s fiscally conservative and pro-choice…but oppose partial birth abortion and federal funding of abortion.

Republicans should not misread the tea leaves with regard to the Scott Brown phenomenon. Brown was not elected because of his blue-state brand of conservatism. His election is a repudiation of an economic and social agenda that embraces a womb-to-tomb nanny state.

In the wake of Democrats’ historic Massachusetts smack-down, I’ve been anxious to see whether Obama would dig in his jackbooted heels and forge ahead with his wildly unpopular socialist agenda; or if he’d play nice with others and tack center (à la Bill Clinton in ‘94). With the opening of the 2010 legislative session in South Dakota, South Dakota has become the latest to join the Firearms Freedom movement which reasserts state jurisdiction over firearms manufactured and sold within the state. Focus on the Family will be sponsoring an ad featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother. The ad is expected to be family oriented and possibly have a pro-life message. Predictably, this has feminist pro-abortion groups in a tizzy.

It isn’t that the President hasn’t talked enough the problem is he isn’t listening. Communication is a two-way exchange and what we have here is a failure to communicate. The day after the Massachusetts megaphone shouted loud and clear, “We don’t want your big government pork-barrel ways!!!” The party of power signaled their shopping spree wasn’t over.
