Daniel Patrick Moynihan published a paper in which he coined the phrase “defining deviancy down.” He was ringing an alarm about what he saw as a dangerous social unraveling as a result of our redefining deviant behavior as normal, rather than doubling down on traditional standards of behavior. It’s through this lens that we should view the Obama administration mandate that employers provide free contraception and sterilization and its refusal to grant an exemption to morally opposed religious institutions.

Since Sandra Fluke and her Leftist friends believe others should provide them with “medical” goods and services to which they feel entitled, perhaps we should mandate that all health care plans cover cough drops as well. Cough drops actually have a standard medicinal purpose, and they wouldn’t violate anyone’s First Amendment protections for freedom of religion the way ObamaCare’s mandate for contraception and abortifacients does. If we’re determined to toss out 200+ years of freedom anyway, why not?

Since the self-righteous and ever-tolerant Left went ballistic over the fact that Rush Limbaugh called a woman who publicly testified that she was having so much sex that it cost $1,000 a year to pay for her contraceptives a slut, we’ve shared a montage or two of some of the liberal “tolerance” and “respect for women” that goes on out there. But as time allows for more research, longer and more informative documentaries are being made available.
