Menorah Lighting Ceremony Held in Rapid City

Tonight the Synagogue of the Hills held a Hanukkah Menorah lighting ceremony in downtown Rapid City.

South Dakota Dist. 32 Senator Stan Adelstein officiated.  He explained the meaning of the ceremony, led in a responsive reading, and then lit the menorah.

I had intended to provide video of the ceremony, but there were audio problems with the sound system and it was somewhat dark in that area, so the video didn’t turn out too good.

Below is a scan of the handout which was distributed to members of the public at the ceremony. The first side shows the responsive reading text, and the second (on the back of the paper) tells the history of the Hanukkah tradition.

Mayor Sam Kooiker was on hand with his daughter, and several other local officials were present also.

Happy Hanukkah!
