Massive defense cuts on the docket, thanks to the complete incompetence and malfeasance of the “supercommittee.” Meanwhile, communist China continues to be a growing threat to us and our allies, North Korea continues to pursue nukes, Iran continues to pursue nukes while they remain the #1 supporter of terrorism in the world, and terrorist groups worldwide still have us in their crosshairs.

Actually, it was more than half a million dollars: more like $640k. Being government creations and creatures, your Fannie and Freddie companies spent $640,000 sending 100 employees to a conference and hosting events there. Aren’t you confident the federal government can get spending under control?

RINO Mitt “RomneyCare” Romney finally got some tough questions (from Fox News, of course), and he wilted under the light of truth. Various pundits and media figures described his performance as “awkward” and “uncomfortable,” “rambling” and “exasperated,” “icily peevish” and more. Romney has received a free ride from the Leftist media…that would evaporate were he to go head-to-head with their Democrat favorite in the general election.

Socialists on the Left would have us believe that their “progressive” (an Orwellian term designed to obfuscate the fact that they are liberal–modern liberal, not classic liberal) ideas can work in the real world. However, it only takes a cursory examination in the real world to realize these fantasies won’t withstand contact with reality. This video provides some insight into how and why these principles contrast, as well as how they work…or, in the case of liberalism, don’t work.

No amount of spin, or rhetoric, or blame-gaming can change the mathematical facts on the ground: Our debt has spiraled out of control and we are rapidly reaching a point of no return. This Congress and this President have had more than enough time to act, but they have failed to do so. If their dismal approval ratings are any indication, there will be a price to pay for this inexcusable indolence come November 2012.

Not only do we have to eat our peas, but we might have to eat our broccoli as well. The Obama Administration reached a tyrannical high recently when, during oral arguments before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals on the constitutionality of Obamacare’s health-insurance mandate, their lawyer, Beth Brinkmann, made the claim that a law requiring Americans to eat broccoli could be constitutional.

At this point in time, anyone who does not understand that America has been taken over by a lawless, communist regime is woefully out of touch with the glaring reality of our situation. How anyone could not see the devilish behavior of Barack Obama and his Marxist buddies in Congress and his administration is hard to fathom, except when we consider that there really are extremely stupid and deluded people in the world. In 2012, vote as if your country is at stake–because it is.

What’s wrong with this picture? Maybe some folks think it’s normal to be stoned, and think recreational drugs should be legal, but mature human beings tend to have a problem with something like this, especially when lives are on the line. First we had the South Dakota Freedom Index which revealed how South Dakota’s state senators scored on 10 freedom-related issues. Now a Republican Platform Scorecard for South Dakota legislators has just been released. The scorecard compares how legislators have voted on actual legislation in Pierre and compared that with the values of the South Dakota GOP Platform. Some of our “Republicans” in Pierre didn’t line up so well with the stated values of the South Dakota GOP as articulated on the platform.

The Obama Administration’s Solyndra scandal that cost U.S. taxpayers $535 million is just the tip of the iceberg of the scandal enveloping Obama’s use of taxpayer dollars to help his top donors. Obama has nationalized the Chicago patronage system. The truth is that on a scale of one to 10, the Nixon scandals were about a three compared to Obama green payoff being a 10.

After visiting the website of Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength, the group demanding higher taxes on wealthy Americans like themselves, one may lament the defiant, don’t-tread-on-me spirit that once defined our national character. They believe that there is no problem that can’t be solved by giving more money to the federal government. Yet any millionaire could easily make better, more productive use of their money than the government ever will.

Everyone worries about running out of money in retirement. Few people feel secure about government spending and Social Security. Even fewer retirees are confident about the future returns of the stock market. In the midst of this turmoil, especially after this past summer’s sharp drop, many investors wonder if they should put all of their investments into something safe and avoid the markets altogether.

No matter what the polls say I believe that the American people still believe in freedom. Don’t be discouraged by the blather of the pontificating politicians or confused by the conflicting ruminations of the professional talkers. When all is said and done we can trust us. We the people will eventually come down on the side of truth, justice, and the American way.

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard recently announced that the state is still having some financial problems, but they aren’t as bad as they were last year. The improvement came with the tax revenue in the past several months has been above the estimates. The downturn in the state’s tobacco revenue is part of why the general fund isn’t where state officials would like to see it.

The University of West Virginia Marching Band put on a half-time show like I haven’t seen in years. According to a recent report comparing attitudes in Europe and America, only 49 percent of Americans now feel that American culture is superior to others. This is down from 60 percent in 2002. What the study does not examine is what we mean by culture. Culture is about the prevailing core attitudes of a society. And, when we look further into this same study, we find that American attitudes are distinctly different from their European counterparts and that these attitudes very much reflect what is uniquely American.

Many people—unfortunately—associate the term “liberalism” with the ideology commonly held by people who associate themselves with Barack Obama, progressivism, Occupy Wall Street, and the Democratic National Committee. But are supporters of the above causes, politicians, and parties really “liberals?”
