Those Who Forget The Past
There’s no joy in saying “we told you so.” Not when millions of Americans are beset by plummeting home prices, stagnant income levels, deteriorating job opportunities and rising consumer prices. Free market advocates repeatedly warned political leaders of both parties regarding these inevitable “bailout byproducts,” but they didn’t listen. Instead, they rushed to reward their favored banks and bureaucracies for years of gross fiscal negligence — leaving taxpayers stuck with a scarcely-fathomable tab.
Government Motors: A Classic Lemon
GM’s dealer inventory of new cars at the end of June topped 605,000 vehicles, a 20% increase since January 2011. In fact, in the past year the number of new cars sitting on dealer lots has increased by 167,000 vehicles as the government overseen and owned entity continues to crank cars off the assembly lines onto already stuffed to capacity car lots. Ultimately, as long as the U.S. government owns any stake in the formerly proud GM, investors need to invoke the old Latin admonition of caveat emptor.
Romney Reckless on Radical Environmentalism
Mitt Romney’s defenders claim he wouldn’t really advance the radical environmentalist agenda even though he admits to believing in the hoax of anthropogenic global warming. He’s a Republican, after all. Yet this “Republican” hammered Pacific Gas and Electric in his state with new environmentalist regulations, and also accused the electrical industry of killing people and causing thousands of health problems. Does this sound like a Republican to you?
Zogby: Bachmann Holds Commanding Lead Over All Republicans
The latest from pollster John Zogby shows Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) with a huge and growing lead over all other Republican candidates for president in 2012. She has extended her lead another 10 points to 34%, while Cain remained at 15% and Romney fell back to 14%. This is very good news, because our republic can survive another four years of Barack Obama…and given our advanced state of decay, probably not even four years of a RINO like Mitt “RomneyCare” Romney.
Obama Should Get Out of Texas’ Business
President Obama is inserting his nose into the business of Texas by demanding the Supreme Court intervene and postpone the execution of an illegal alien from Mexico. It was an awful crime. Back in 1994, Mexican national Humberto Leal Garcia brutally raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl in San Antonio. There was no doubt of his guilt. Yet our president is trying to help this convicted murderer–who should not have been in our country in the first place–escape justice.
Limbaugh: Romney Running Against Republicans
Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said today on his show that Mitt “RomneyCare” Romney was running against Republicans and conservatives. It’s no wonder. Romney already has a record of promoting socialized health care, global warming nonsense, abortion and the homosexual agenda–and now he’s singing the praises of the unions. Shouldn’t Republicans have a nominee who isn’t ashamed of Republican values?
Obama’s $278,000 Per Job Boondoggle
The Weekly Standard reports that according to President Barack Obama’s own economists, his porkulus package (aka “stimulus”) cost the taxpayers $278,000 per job saved or created. Now that’s government efficiency! It’s no wonder the founders of our nation set things up the way they did (i.e. a free market and limited government). But Barack Obama is so much smarter than the founders, isn’t he?
SOS: Speaking of Seniors – Cataloging Medicare Complaints
For over eight years, I have helped senior citizens to cancel wrongful medical charges that were caused by problems with the Medicare system. I have saved the clients of just one insurance agency in Indiana over one million dollars by cancelling or correcting wrongful medical claims. I have many complaints about the Medicare system. Briefly stated, here are just a few.
Sexuality Can Be Bent–And Straightened
There is a lot of focus these days on the issue of homosexuality — not because it’s worse than other sexual abnormalities, but because it’s the one such abnormality that is currently being loudly proclaimed as “normal.” The simple reality, though, is that homosexuality is no more an “orientation” than pedophilia, porn addiction, or any other sexual issue. Rather, it is just one of many directions in which sexuality can be “bent” early in a person’s life.
The Ratification Debate Part One
To understand the debate over the ratification of the Constitution it is necessary to first establish the context, for the study of a text without a context is a pretext. Therefore, each of the next three weeks I will post one installment of a short refection on the ratification debate. Was the Constitution the first document produced to form the United States of America? Does it mark the beginning of our nation and its government?
Obama’s Gasoline Change Doesn’t Change Basic Economics
Last month the Obama administration announced it would release 30 million barrels of oil, the largest ever, from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Only those without an understanding of basic economics would applaud such a move. While we are arguing about Big Oil’s subsidies of $18 billion over 10 years, no one seems concerned about Big Government’s windfall taxes of $24.4 billion every year. We should keep the strategic reserves for a real emergency.
West Nile virus deaths in SD: 2003 14; 2010 None; This year ?
The number of West Nile virus cases has gone down in the past few years, but that certainly is no guarantee it will stay that way. This is especially true this summer with South Dakota almost smothered by water, the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Fourteen South Dakotans died in 2003. They were among the 1,039 who were infected that year. There were only 20 people had positive tests for the virus last year, with no deaths reported. What the report will be for this year is anyone’s guess, said Lon Kightlinger, South Dakota’s state epidemiologist.
No Stomach for Abject Surrender
Still another great scene from the HBO miniseries John Adams. When I see the exchange between John Adams and John Dickinson who opposed independence, I often think of the socialists of our modern times who shamelessly cast aside their legacy of freedom and independence in exchange for an unconstitutional and overweening government that will do all their thinking for them and supply all their needs (or so they think).
Liberty Will Reign in America
This is another clip from that that great HBO miniseries John Adams. In this scene, Adams is speaking at a gathering in a church, and his speech here borrows heavily from his “Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law” in 1765.
Reagan Honored for Freedom in Europe
There has been little coverage of this here in the States but one of America’s greatest presidents, Ronald Wilson Reagan, is being honored overseas for helping free millions of people from the oppression of Marxism. A statue of Reagan is being unveiled today in London, another in Budapest, and a street is being named after him in Prague. Reagan’s vision of peace through strength helped bring down the world’s most Evil Empire and set free many countries that had suffered under the yoke of communism for decades.
God Save Our American States
This is a clip from a fantastic HBO miniseries John Adams, based on David McCullough’s book by the same name. The scene is of that historic day 235 years ago when our American ancestors made the incredible decision to defy the most powerful empire on earth, declaring independence and the right to establish a new nation based on revolutionary (yet thousands of years old) ideas about the origin of humanity’s rights, and the foundation of good government.
Real Republicans Are Foul-Mouthed Opponents of the Family
Is the kind of Republican, the kind of elected official you’d like representing you and your party one who uses strong profanity and admits to using it in front of young children? If you are a Republican, do you want to be represented by someone who contributes money and energy to fight against the protection of innocent human life, and against the protection of the sanctity of marriage? If you are a Republican, do you want to be represented by someone who has given tens of thousands of dollars to elect Democrats? Republicans, you have such a person in your midst.
America Suffering from Oikophobia Outbreak
Bill Whittle’s latest Firewall examines one of the most maddening and insane of the characteristics displayed by the Left: self-loathing of America. Or as it is officially known: Oikophobia. Given the revolutionary ideas upon which America was founded, and the incredible results of those ideas, why would Americans of any stripe–the Left or anywhere else–loathe this obviously superior and remarkably blessed way of life?

Being the Church When Empires Fall
As Christians, we must reclaim and re-humanize the topic of sex by giving our young people a comprehensive theology of sex that is grounded in the gift of intimacy and relationship, rather than a self-satisfying animalistic act. We must move beyond our prudishness that simply teaches teens what not to do and celebrate the gift of sex as God intended it to be. Until we start teaching the superiority of sex as defined by God, this generation will likely continue to exchange the truth of God for the lie.
Murderers Treated Better Than Innocent Human Life
The manner in which a society treats human life says a lot not only about that society but about each individual who makes up that society. How a society treats convicted murderers says even more about a society. But what does it say about a society when that society gives exponentially more consideration and protection to convicted murderers than it does to innocent human life?
Mid East Misogyny and the Plight of Muslim Women
Elevating the rights of women in Muslim Countries is a cause that should galvanize Liberals and Conservatives, Christians, Jews, and American Muslims – indeed, anyone who is interested in equality and liberty and justice for all. The blessing of a free society is that our citizens are free to speak out on this issue even though our public officials can’t find their voice. Is our love of gas-guzzling SUVs and our wrongheaded sense of “multicultural sensitivity” preventing us from giving this issue the attention it deserves?
