Independence Day parades just makes people more patriotic (yuck) and turns people into Republicans (gasp), according to a study conducted by Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam. Why might that be? Let’s take a look at how both sides of the political aisle look at America and her founding 235 years ago.
Shad Olson had Eagle Forum South Dakota President Kitty Werthmann in the studio of the Shad Olson Show recently. Werthmann was in Rapid City recently and was a guest on the Shad Olson Show. She and Olson talked about a number of subjects including the newly elevated “mainstream” media war against conservative GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, as well as the speaking engagements Werthmann has across the country warning Americans about the dangers of socialism. Being a survivor of National Socialism, she knows.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), the latest and best of the GOP presidential candidates, is now tied with Herman Cain in Gallup’s “intensity” score which measures the intensity of positive support for the candidate. That’s not surprising at all. Bachmann is unapologetically conservative, and unlike many Republican men, isn’t spineless or lacking in testicular fortitude.
This video from the Heritage Foundation shows what has happened to the education system in America where schools were once under local control and the federal government kept its nose constitutionally out of most educational decisions. The analogy is a community of 50 homes where everyone looks after their own interests. But then a guy named Steve comes along and more or less appoints himself the guardian of all their homes.
On the morning of June 29, 2011, I received a fax which was a copy of a payment demand later from a bill collection law firm regarding an $1100 bill to one of our clients. On the fax was a handwritten note which said, “Supplemental insurance is supposed to pay for this!” The bill was for a client who is an elderly woman. The note was not signed. I tracked and contacted the sender by calling the firm from which the fax was sent. I learned that the fax was sent by the angry daughter of one of our clients. I got an earful from the angry daughter. It was a lovely way to start my day.
This new ad from GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain really nails Barack Obama. It nails him for the anti-American friends and associates he has hung out with since his college days and before, for the anti-American Marxists he has appointed to high positions within our government, and his own Marxist opinions.
It didn’t take long…and we knew it wouldn’t. What am I talking about? The vicious, relentless, and petty all-out assault on Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), the best GOP presidential candidate, by the “mainstream” media. That ultra-microscopic parsing of everything the candidate says and does…so long as they are conservative. The long list of gaffes by the Obamessiah must be ignored to make time to criticize everything that a conservative says. See for yourself.
Should we require people who receive taxpayer money welfare handouts to submit to random drug testing? As with most social-fiscal issues, this is a divisive one. Opponents claim this would be a violation of Fourth Amendment protection from unreasonable search, and of course, some of them play the race card as well. Supporters claim this would save millions in taxpayer dollars and help people get off drugs.
Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), like a typical Democrat, spouts Marxist propaganda that is a mirror image of reality. So it is that he calls Republican plans for fiscal responsibility and entitlement reform “unfair” and “un-American.” Does he really not understand how un-American socialist programs and reckless spending really are?
Secretary of State Jason M. Gant announced that ballot submissions to repeal SB 38 and SB 43 did not meet today’s deadline and will not be on the ballot for the November 2012 election. Since they did not meet the deadline, they will take effect as other laws would on July 1st. The bills were related to South Dakota’s compliance with the federal Affordable Care Act (commonly known as President Obama’s Health Care reform).
The Declaration of Independence was, as Thomas Jefferson said, “intended to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion.” Stated in the Declaration of Independence, and as they became part of the American culture, the concepts and ideas contained therein take on a universal meaning. In essence, the ideas have escaped from the pages of the document and have entered the flow of cosmic history.
As the South Dakota Democratic Party submits close to 23,00 petition signatures to refer House Bill 1230 to the ballot, the South Dakota Republican Party says Democrats have placed politics over good public policy. Republicans say Democrats ignore the fact that the bill costs 30% less than the old program and is intended to spur job creation in South Dakota.
Secretary of State Jason M. Gant announced that officials from the South Dakota Democratic Party appeared at his office today to turn in referral petitions for House Bill 1230, signed by the Governor back in March. The measure is described in its title as “an act to establish the large project development fund, to provide for its administration, and to make an appropriation therefor.”
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), the GOP candidate for president who best exemplifies Republican values, appeared on Fox News Sunday yesterday. She answered some of the charges against her made by her detractors, and made a strong case for the conservative values that make the Republican Party distinct from its counterpart. Bachmann is clearly the best equipped and most dedicated candidate to restore America to the roots that made her great, and restore us to prosperity.
CNN Reports the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has now searched a 95 year old woman in the final stages of leukemia, forcing her to remove her adult diaper. When will we force our government to stop treating its citizens like criminals when there is not even a reasonable suspicion to justify these intrusive personal searches?
Who will the GOP nominee be? Will it be someone who could fire up the rank-and-file or will it be another in the long line of “It’s My Turn” RHINOs that the Party sets up to get knocked down? Will Romney be the next McCain, the next Dole, or the next George H. W. Bush? Four more years of managed decline without a re-election to restrain him and President Obama’s transformational vision of America as just another country may become more than just the content of his latest apology or the lesson taught to our children in public schools.
The purpose of a gone-fishing portfolio is to keep things uncomplicated and allow you some extra time for fishing. Even in our gone-fishing portfolios we suggest investing more overseas than in the United States. For most investors, foreign stocks will be their largest and most important allocation. Including the right mix of foreign stocks will help you relax and go fishing no matter which foreign seas are in turmoil.
With the flooding in the Pierre-Ft. Pierre area and at Dakota Dunes, financial difficulties in the state, counties and towns, appear to have taken a back seat. But the difficulties are still there. At the same time these governmental entities continue to work for us. As I see it, the flood and these financial problems are helping to create a new spirit of cooperation in South Dakota.

As if utterly blind to the past, the American empire is now following the Roman road to self-destruction, proving again what Toynbee said, “Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder.” However, that was not the end of the story, for out of the collapse of one kingdom there arose another kingdom without end: the Kingdom of God. Despite the sexual anarchy of the Roman world, the Christian church stood in stark contrast to the decaying culture and would go on to flourish while the former would fall.
My family and I attended a First Shots program today in Sturgis, South Dakota, hosted by the new CORBON Law Enforcement Training Center as part of their grand opening. First Shots is a nationwide program for introducing people to firearms and shooting safety. My 13 year old and 8 year old had a blast shooting .22 revolvers, a Walther P22, and some rifles including an M4. Firearms, when done safely, definitely means family fun.
Three GOP presidential candidates have, for one reason or another, refused to sign a pro-life pledge by the Susan B. Anthony List. They are Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, and Gary Johnson. Mr. Cain has clarified that his reticence has nothing to do with ideological opposition and everything to do with his understanding of checks and balances. Johnson has identified himself as pro-choice, so no surprise there. But then there is Governor Romney.
Thank you, Eric Cantor. Thank you for walking out on useless talks, presided over by Vice President Biden, addressing raising the limit on our nation’s debt. According to press accounts, Republican House Majority Leader Cantor called it quits on talks between Democratic and Republican leaders because Democrats refuse to give in on raising taxes.
OurWalmart.org is running a deceptive operation in the fact that they attempt to hide their affiliation with the United Food and Commercial Works (UFCW) union. This website and the organizing efforts that come along with it, are the latest attempts for Big Labor to get their hands on the profits of Walmart.
