Just last week it was announced that Former Solicitor General Paul Clement had been hired by the House to defend the Defense of Marriage Act DOMA after President Obama announced he was refusing to do his duty to enforce the law. Now we learn that homosexual activists have launched a campaign of intimidation against Clement’s law firm, resulting in his departure from that organization. But Clement immediately joined the Washington-based Bancroft PLLC law firm and will continue to defend DOMA unimpeded.
Unfortunately the U.S. Supreme Court has taken a pass on expediting a final ruling on ObamaCare, leaving the matter to fester for another year or so. It would have been nice for the Supreme Court to expedite a final review of this unconstitutional abomination to remove the cloud of uncertainty from over our struggling economy. But it looks like we’ll have to shuffle onward in uncertainty for at least several months more.
South Dakota’s new Congresswoman Kristi Noem (R-SD) has cast some good votes since going to Washington this year and has quickly become a leader in the national Republican Party, but some of the people back home who worked most ardently to get her elected are starting to run out of patience with her lack of a solid stance on fiscal responsibility. What she does over the next several months may just determine whether she faces a primary challenger next year, not even two years out of the gate.

It has only been about a month since the South Dakota Legislature closed the doors on the 86th session in Pierre and already there are plans being made to refer two of the new laws to the voters in the state. Both relate to health care in South Dakota. There is also a hint that more referendums may be coming down the pike.
