Conservatives across South Dakota have watched the South Dakota legislative session with great interest over the past month…and have been very disappointed in many areas. While there have been some good votes that reflect the good conservative values that make up the Republican Party platform, too many times we’ve seen Republicans talk, act and vote like Democrats. So a group of conservatives from across the state have put together their thoughts and sent them to all 80 Republicans in the South Dakota Legislature.

Two weeks ago, “Republicans” in the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee chose the easy road and voted down HB 1088, a bill to nullify ObamaCare in South Dakota. At a time when the federal government has drastically overreached its constitutional or moral authority, this entire committee chose to do nothing about the unconstitutional assault of ObamaCare. Tomorrow, the same committee has a chance to get it right with HB 1165. They need to hear from YOU, South Dakota.

Maybe the warm fuzzies came over the Muslim Brotherhood within the last few years? At first glance their official website, Ikhwahnweb.com, you would think “peace and love” were key components to the MB. A beautiful Egyptian little girl’s face adorns the heading with the word, “peace,” after all. You can even click on their statements and see all of the condemnations of violence, repugnance of Al-Qaeda, and commitments to social justice and reform. Look deeper, however, and you’ll find support for Sharia, preparation to fight the enemies of Islam, and an expectation of quiet acceptance.

Europe is really starting to get it. After decades of running around with their heads up…well, with their heads full of liberal rubbish, they are finally starting to face the fact that liberalism is nothing but a bunch of feel-good ideas that just don’t work in the real world. Case in point is multiculturalism, or the idea that a people, a society can hang onto radically different beliefs and values and still be “on the same team.” British Prime Minister David Cameron is the latest European leader to get it.

I realize that every generation of Americans has bemoaned the music of the younger generation, and there is a reason for it. It’s because our society devolves; it doesn’t evolve. As we have moved through time, even though knowledge and technology have increased, there has been a steady process of degeneration in our culture and morality and the minds and hearts of the people.

It’s hard to sugar-coat the decision of the South Dakota House today to kill a bill which called for drug testing for welfare recipients who might be using drugs. Lawmakers talk about financial responsibility and making cuts, but if you can’t bring yourself to cut the welfare check of someone who is using taxpayer money to buy illegal drugs…what in the world can you bring yourself to cut???

Liberals spend a lot of time putting perfume and lipstick on the pig of their anti-Americanism, so it is very refreshing when we get to see clear examples of how the Left really feels. Like the protester this weekend who said the Tea Party is more dangerous than the pro-terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.

There’s an old axiom that what children learn in school today will be the philosophy of government tomorrow. As surveillance cameras, metal detectors, police patrols, zero tolerance policies, lock downs, drug sniffing dogs and strip searches become the norm in elementary, middle and high schools across the nation, America is on a fast track to raising up an Orwellian generation–one populated by compliant citizens accustomed to living in a police state and who march in lockstep to the dictates of the government.

As badly as the Left wants Americans to buy into ObamaCare, the American people continue to reject this snake oil for what it it is. The latest from Rasmussen shows 58% of likely voters favor repealing ObamaCare. These results are not really different than polls we’ve seen over the past year which show that the American people just aren’t into the socialist promises of a “free lunch” ObamaCare offers.

Like many good Americans, Stanley Kurtz didn’t want to believe Barack Obama was a socialist during the 2008 presidential campaign. But when Kurtz took the time to investigate Obama’s beliefs and his past, he found that Obama is a “classic Marxist-Leninist.” There are important truths Americans must realize about socialism and how it has evolved to survive in America.

From the day the Constitution was signed to the day it was ratified this country rang with the impassioned speeches and stirring essays of the opponents and the proponents of our founding document. Today is the day and now is the time for the debate to once again stir the hearts of the nation, will we have a limited government, personal liberty and free enterprise or are we going to have something else?

Every 10 years South Dakota must rewrite its legislative districts following the 10-year census. This traditionally is proportioned according to equal populations in each district. When it comes to redistricting, odoriferous politics in our state has played a big part in how the areas actually came into being. Political parties aren’t the only challenges to this process: huge legislative districts and sparsely populated areas make for headaches,too.

As we remember the birthday of Ronald Reagan, the greatest American president of the last 150 years, this is another of his hallmark speeches. This is another of those speeches which displayed his deep character and his burning love of freedom. It was his speech on March 8, 1983 to the National Association of Evangelicals in which he first used the term “evil empire,” in referring to what truly was an evil empire: the Soviet Union.

Today is the birthday of the greatest American president in the last 150 years: Ronald Reagan. As we remember this giant of a man, this great freedom fighter, this tireless apostle of the American way, watch this video of one of his greatest moments: when he called on the Soviets to tear down the freedom-robbing Berlin Wall.

Jesus’ invitation is to “enter the kingdom of God.” Practically, this means that we are saved out of our isolation and alienation and into the community of God’s people. As C. S. Lewis points out in his classic work Mere Christianity, when Christians are “united together in a body, loving one another, helping one another…” their life together becomes “the one really adequate instrument for learning about God….” There is a profoundly corporate sense to God’s redemptive plan that carries forward from national Israel to form a new covenant people (the church) out of both the Jew and Gentile into the new Israel.

Turns out, Liberals aren’t as keen on multiculturalism as they claim. Their views might be best described as “Our-culturalism.” The tenets of our-culturalism are quite simple: Our worldview is right, good, and absolutely necessary for a just society. Those who disagree with us are not merely wrong, not merely different, they are a positive threat – hatemongers who must be isolated and ostracized for the greater good of society.

The riots in Egypt and other areas around the Middle East caught experts by surprise. If we want to promote freedom, how about starting at home? Unfortunately the most important thing we could have been doing — staying free ourselves–we haven’t been doing. The Index of Economic Freedom finds the United States has plummeted from “free” to “mostly free.” How can we promote freedom abroad when we aren’t free at home?

South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant announced that his office’s communications will add Facebook, Twitter, and You-tube and other social media tools as part of a comprehensive effort to enhance voter education and to inform people of the mission of the Secretary of State. “Since South Dakota leads the nation in Facebook use on a per-capita basis, I believe it is a valuable service to provide to South Dakotans,“ said Secretary of State Gant.

Responding to Monday’s ruling in Florida on the constitutionality of ObamaCare, Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen set the tone for the rest of the nation. According to Attorney General Van Hollen, “Wisconsin was relieved of any obligations or duties that were created under terms of the federal health care law.” Attorney General Van Hollen is absolutely correct.

Some of the most peaceful, loving Leftists in America recently got together for an event they called “Uncloaking the Koches,” referencing the wealthy David and Charles Koch. You can just feel the Left-wing love oozing from these gentle, daisy-picking souls…as they talk about hanging, torturing and shooting conservatives. Don’t tell me: all the “hate” from the Right about respecting the Constitution drove them to it, right?

It looks like adult stem cells are on the move for helping people once again. Doctor Jörg Gerlach from the University of Pittsburgh’s McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine has developed a device, a “gun” if you will, which can spray a patient’s own stem cells onto a burned area of skin and heal severely burned skin much faster than current techniques. It can take weeks or months to do what this adult stem cell technique can do in a few days.

Do you suppose there can be any stopping the wimpification of our society, or have we gone too far to be able to return to the days of sanity, common sense and skin of a decent thickness? Part of what I’m talking about is this obsessive compulsion of people, mostly on the Left, to demand an America that offends no one, except Christians and Tea Party patriots, of course. This Wimpification has as its goal the obliteration of freedom of speech and free expression.
