The Fight for Modesty
Turn on the TV. Take a stroll in the store. Go to church and you’ll see it: Females dressing as though the new fad is straight “hooker.” That may be a little crass, but seriously, when you pick up a magazine or just try to watch the news, you’re bombarded with an obscene amount of skin. Sex sells, so they say. And “they” be right. The only thing that has even a smidge of marketability the way a barely clothed woman will is a puppy. And puppies don’t wear any clothes.
My Name’s America and I’m a Debt-a-holic
We, as America have a problem: we’re addicted to debt. Now is not the time to point fingers. This isn’t the time to figure out whose fault it is or when was the fatal binge that sent us over the line from recreational user to addict. Now is the time to man-up, to admit we have a problem, and take the first steps toward recovery. And I’m not talking about some over-priced, jazzed-up, Betty Ford type recovery “Program.” I mean real recovery
CBS: The Descent into Fear
The recent Restoring Honor rally and the Restoring Sanity rallies appear similar in attendance by looking at areal photographs. Yet CBS obviously lowballed the conservative rally. CBS has spent years descending into fear-based bias…born of fear that the public will see that their emperor has no clothes unless they attempt to dress him up.
Seven Financial Rules for Marital Bliss
An overwhelming number of failed marriages cite financial troubles as a major factor in their breakup. This is no surprise because the way we use our time and money reflects our values. Without a strong set of shared values, marriages drift apart. But, dealing with finances together can bring a couple closer. Here are seven principles of how you can build wealth and your marriage.
Some meandering musings about the campaign and election
Now the midterm General Election is history and no matter who won and who lost the sun came up the next morning. It should be about time the post-election celebrations and whine and cheese parties come to an end. The voice of the people as expressed on Election Day needs to be respected because they have spoken. It’s time the winners roll up their sleeves and go to work attempting to cure our state’s ills
Dakota Voice Week in Review, Ending Nov. 6, 2010
These are the best of the best at Dakota Voice last week, including: Election Earthquake 2010; First Steps Toward Police State USA?; On Voter Fraud and the Subtle Leftism of FOX News; Noem, Thune, Daugaard Draw 400+ in Rapid City; The Hypocrisy of ‘Hate-Speech’; Responsibilities of the Christian Voter; This is What They Think of You; Prove Them Wrong; and more!
For the Tea Party, Celebration and a Serious Message
Tonight the South Dakota Tea Party Alliance held their victory celebration in Rapid City to recount the hard work of the Tea Party movement over the past two years, and to prepare for the work ahead. A slide presentation illustrated the numerous events, forums and rallies hosted by the local Tea Party movement. Featured speaker Qusi Al-Haj, West River Regional Director for Senator John Thune, spoke about what to expect during the upcoming lame duck session. Former South Dakota State Senator and head of the local conservative Wingnuts group Bill Napoli discussed changes in political climate and urged the Tea Party movement to keep the politicians’ feet to the fire. Live music was provided by local country musician and singer Wes Hotchkiss.
Ain’t Obama’s Business If I Do
This video might have been a little more topical a week ago, but the sentiments are no less true today than before the conservative rout on Tuesday. This is a reminder that the Tea Party movement has only just begun and there is still much work to be done. We now have a glimmer of hope for the future of our children and grandchildren, but we must not be lulled into thinking we’ve won the match.
Social Justice Is No Justice at All
The problem with “social justice” is that it typically means a forced type of justice, a justice that neither helps the poor and downtrodden in the end nor creates an atmosphere of kindness and mercy. It’s a type of justice that only creates a sense of resentment and mistrust of the government and its programs that were created to achieve those ends in the first place. In the end, social justice is no justice at all but just an empty vessel fit for serving no one.
Change and Hope
The election results are in, and in the words of former President George W. Bush, it was a thumping. For their part, the President and Speaker-designate Boehner maintain that they have gotten the message. The whole nation will be watching to see if they mean what they say. They’d better, because if they don’t, the American people are prepared to effect additional change in order to restore the hope that was promised them.
Race and the 2010 elections
Will the NAACP be celebrating the arrival of two new black faces to the U.S. House of Representatives? Don’t hold your breath. They certainly will not. These two new black congressmen are Republicans. We have arrived in post-racial America but establishment blacks–lodged in the political left–refuse to accept it and are doing all they can to get black citizens to refuse to accept it.
Tea Party Victory Celebration
Tea Party patriots in the Black Hills area have worked hard the last two years. Since the Tea Party movement was born less than two years ago, they’ve been coming to meetings, writing letters to the paper and to congress, waving signs at rallies, working hard to get out the vote and giving it all they had to change the disastrous course of our country. Now it’s time for Black Hills area patriots to celebrate in Rapid City Saturday night.
Becoming a Mainstream Media Reporter
Have you ever given any thought to becoming a “mainstream” media reporter? Well, if you have problems with honesty and a liberal bent, you may have some of the most important innate qualities necessary to perform this role. Klavan on the Culture has a new reality show called “You Too Can Be a Mainstream Media Reporter” to help channel people with the innate predeliction for deceit, shallowness and bias necessary to be a “mainstream” media reporter into this career field.
The Acceptability of Culpability
Once upon a time, in the world of politics, accepting public blame for some untoward incident was a relatively rare occasion. On those occasions, the evidence was typically overwhelmingly against the perpetrator. The guilty party would often go on to live a quiet existence somewhere away from the spotlight. But now it seems to have become acceptable to be culpable for wrongdoing. Well, sorta culpable.
On Voter Fraud and the Subtle Leftism of FOX News
Oh what a night Tuesday was! There were some stains on the night, however, and we saw that beyond all reason, Harry Reid, Barney Frank and Barbara Boxer “won” their reelections. Reports of voter fraud have poured in from all across the country. Then there were the subtle jabs from Fox News about Tea Party candidates and GOP establishment positions.
Allen West a Win in Florida
Another big win for the Tea Party movement Tuesday was that of retired Lt. Col. Allen West to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. West is a freedom-loving conservative patriot who understands the reckless course our country has been on, and is committed to returning the American republic to our constitutional foundation of fiscal responsibility and limited government.
Republicans Must ‘Hang Together’…
Now that conservative candidates have mopped the floor with Democrats as expected, the Republican Party needs to have a serious “come to Jesus” meeting, and quick. The party will either return to the tried-and-true principles of unsullied Reagan conservatism, or the new Republican revolution will fizzle faster than you can say “Obama is a socialist.”
Kristi Noem at Republican Ambassadors
There was a great crowd of around 200 people at the Republican Ambassadors Luncheon today at the Holiday Inn in Rapid City, South Dakota. Several distinguished visitors and speakers included South Dakota Governor-elect Dennis Daugaard, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, and Congresswoman-elect Kristi Noem.
The Hypocrisy of ‘Hate-Speech’
So, Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart turned out their “Restore the Sanity” rally this last week. I was bustin’ a gut! Well, not at Colbert or Stewart, but the name of the rally! The IRONY of it all! I know, I know. I should have a better sense of humor…who doesn’t love a good, sexually charged, offensive euphemism thrown around in description of their personal, political beliefs, right? Uh, correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t that “hate speech?”
Liveblogging Election Earthquake 2010
Dakota Voice will be liveblogging the 2010 election, otherwise known as Earthquake 2010. I’ll be doing some from home, and some from the Republican Victory Party down at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn after 7:00 pm tonight. We’ll be looking at results here in South Dakota, locally and across the state, and at what is going on nationwide.
Video from Kristi Noem Bus Tour
This is a compilation of clips I took yesterday when the Kristi Noem bus tour came to Rapid City yesterday. Enjoy, then make sure you’ve been out to vote for her today! Today is the day we hold the future in our hands–our future, our children’s future, and the future of our republic. We cannot shrink back. Let’s press on and encourage others to press on to victory for America!
The Insanity of the Restoring Sanity Rally
Some good insights as usual from Steven Crowder on Jon Stewart’s “Restoring Sanity” rally last week. Or as Greg Gutfeld more aptly described it, “The Ignoring the Insanity” rally, because in order to think President Barack Obama and his socialist fellows in congress have been doing a good job, you have to work really hard to ignore the insanity (or be insane yourself).
