Kristi Noem has a new commercial out about her Democrat opponent, incumbent Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. It includes that hallmark statement from Herseth Sandlin at last year’s DakotaFest where she said, “Don’t be so scared because Democrats are in charge.” The ad also points out that, the occasional fodder votes not withstanding, Herseth Sandlin votes with Speaker Nancy Pelosi most of the time, not with the values of South Dakota.

“ANOTHER REPUBLICAN STAR BORN: RAISES MOST IN HOUSE RACES” That was the headline on Drudge Report this afternoon which linked to an ABC News article which says Republican Kristi Noem has raised more campaign cash than any other Republican challenger for U.S. House of Representatives.

Don’t you just love those “green jobs” the environmentalists dream up? They are so good for…well, for someone. Just not most Americans. The push for florescent light bulbs has led to GE closing its last factor producing incandescent light bulbs, exporting jobs to China. We must stop embracing the pipe dreams of environmental extremists.

In the face of poor poll results going back for the last year, Democrats are so desperate to get some of their guys re-elected, they’re stooping to bait-and-switch tactics on the voters. The South Jersey Young Democrats met at the Camden County Democratic Committee Headquarters in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and hatched a plan to re-elect Democrat Rep. John Adler by injecting a “Tea Party” spoiler candidate.

Senator John Thune, Kristi Noem and Ron Volesky have added their names to the list of office holders and candidates who have signed a pledge promising to support “no taxpayer funding of abortions.” Candidates who make this pledge understand that protecting human life is foundational to our very freedom, and oppose taxpayer funding used to take innocent human life.

The latest example of bowing to the intimidation of Islamic goons is by the Washington Post, which, Sunday before last, on October 3rd, decided not to run a daily cartoon because it contained the name Muhammad–no picture, mind you–just the name. Of course no one likes death threats, but at what point do we realize we’re being held hostage by fear of these Islamists?

Changing from the culture of death to a culture of life. This is really an audacious statement when you think about it and yet we talk of changing the culture all the time, as if this is an easy thing to do. Of course, as Christians, we do desire to see the culture reflect values and beliefs that represent the kingdom and honor Christ.

The majority of schools today have adopted an all-or-nothing lockdown mindset that leaves little room for freedom, individuality or due process. Metal detectors, drug-sniffing dogs and pat-down searches have become commonplace, while draconian zero tolerance policies characterize as criminal behavior the most innocuous things, such as students in possession of Alka-Seltzer or a drawing of a soldier. A handful of schools have even gone so far as to require students to drape Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags around their necks.

“Nobody’s Children,” a music video written by John W. Whitehead, performed by Joshua Whitehead and produced by Chris Combs of The Rutherford Institute has been named among the top 10 winners of a Music/Performance Video Contest sponsored by The Citizens Commission on Human Rights of Florida (CCHR). The contest is part of a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of psychiatric drugs and the risks associated with medicating children.

The health risks associated with marijuana use are numerous. The dangers to society are even greater. While our culture has a practice of removing dangerous prescription drugs from the market, some would have us legalize a drug that has little medicinal use but great abuse potential in addition to the health risks. Does a responsible society do such a thing?

It’s just three weeks until the General Election. According to the political pundits the big issue facing those South Dakotans who will be the winners of the governor and legislative races in the Nov. 2 election is how are they going to balance next fiscal year’s state budget. According to our state Constitution, that has to be done. Then there are looming issues concerning seatbelts, driving with cell phones, education and more.

The way things are looking in the polls for the socialists, we’re going to have to put warning labels for Democrats on the doors of all the nation’s voting locations that read something like this: “Abandon hope, all ye Democrats who enter here.” A historic majority of likely voters call themselves conservatives, which could mean the socialist agenda in Washington is about to be stopped dead in its tracks.

The quest for victory in politics and the power it brings often brings out the worst in people. Central Florida congressman Alan Grayson’s recent attack on his Republican opponent Daniel Webster is a case in point. Grayson – locked in a tight race with a popular, highly regarded veteran of the Florida Legislature – has resorted to an “ends justifies the means” tactic that is so outrageous, it may well cost him the election.

Atlantic Magazine journalist and blogger Jeffrey Goldberg is trying to understand why blacks are such “very forgiving people.” Why does he think they are? Well, how could any black American be, or even think about being, a Republican when, according to Goldberg, Republican “party officials….venerate the Confederacy.”

Earlier this week as Pakistan-born Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad was sentenced, he and U.S. District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum provided the American people with some valuable lessons about Muslim extremists and evil in general. He told the judge that he has already thought about whether the Quran tells him to kill people, and that it does. He also admits that while he swore allegiance to America, he “did not mean it.”
