Legalizing Marijuana: Why Citizens Should Just Say No
States such as South Dakota and California are considering marijuana laws this year. Scientific research is clear that marijuana is addictive and that its use significantly impairs bodily and mental functions. Even where decriminalized, marijuana trafficking remains a source of violence, crime, and social disintegration. Furthermore, studies have shown that legalized marijuana will provide nowhere near the economic windfall proclaimed by some proponents.
Constitution Day: Celebrate the Bill of Rights
On September 17, 1787, the final draft of the Constitution was adopted by members of the Constitutional Convention. It was a momentous occasion in our nation’s history—one that we continue to pay tribute to today—and yet it pales in significance to the adoption of the “Bill of Rights.” Without those 462 words that comprise the Bill of Rights, there would be little standing between average citizens like you and me and governmental tyranny.
Geert Wilders at Ground Zero: No Mosque Here
Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders spoke at Ground Zero in New York City on September 11, 2010, and this is the text and video of his speech. He has witnessed the Islamization of Europe and his own country of the Netherlands, and he has a message for America: “That is why we are here today. To draw the line. Here, on this sacred spot.”
On the Right Side: Right to Ridiculous
On the Right Side has rolled out a new regular feature: Right to Ridiculous. This feature has radio talk show host Shad Olson introducing a forum discussion of the issues with Gordon Howie on the Right and Vinod Gupta from, well, you can guess. Today they talk about the Ground Zero Victory Mosque and Quran burning.
People Rally for Pot
Rapid City’s local dope peddler Bob Newland is planning a deceptive rally for tomorrow in support of legalizing “medical” marijuana, but he made it clear that supporters should not use words like “marijuana” and “legalize” on their signs. This might get voters thinking too much about what they’d really be supporting if they vote for South Dakota’s Initiated Measure 13. Newland and other supporters want voters to think of anything but what the “medical” marijuana initiative is really about.
Dakota Voice Week in Review, Ending Sept. 11, 2010
The best of the best from Dakota Voice last week including: Thinking Christianly about Islam, Muslims, and the Ground-Zero Mosque Part 2 of 3; Obama’s Past Still Under Wraps, Lakin Defense Denied; Second Gulf Oil Platform Explosion a Stunning Coincidence?; Islamic Tolerance Displayed in Call for Beheading Politician; Does Quran-Burning Pastor Have a Point?; New South Dakota Blog; and more!
Incoherence in the ‘Medical’ Marijuana Push
Dr. Mick E. Vanden Bosh brings out some good points concerning the push in South Dakota by drug advocates to use the “medical” marijuana issue to advance the legalization of recreational drugs: “Isn’t it incoherent for South Dakotans to be voting on banning the smoking of cigarettes in bars and restaurants because of its great health risks, while also asking them for permission to smoke a more dangerous drug?”
Thinking Christianly about Islam, Muslims, and the Ground-Zero Mosque – Conclusion
If those behind the Cordoba Initiative are determined to proceed with the construction of this mosque, despite the overwhelming sentiment of their neighbors, then they will no doubt bear the consequences of their “witness.” Let us not compromise ours by descending into a politicized war of words that centers on our rights. As Christians, we stand in contrast to those who demand their rights even to the point of surrendering our rights if necessary to stand for Christ and his kingdom: the kingdom of love, peace, and truth.
911: Attack at the Pentagon
My friend Colonel Deb Shattuck (now retired) was at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. I interviewed her about three years ago and wrote up a brief piece on her story of that day. Though I have printed it before, it’s worth printing again, lest we forget what it was like for our men and women in uniform on that terrible day.
People Jumped from WTC on 911
These scenes of people jumping from many stories up in the World Trade Towers are very, very disturbing. They are posted here not gratuitously, but out of great respect for the memory of these innocent civilians who were given the poor choice by Islamic terrorists of (a) burning alive in the WTC, or (b) jumping to their deaths.
The 911 Timeline of Terror
Fox News has put together a “Timeline of Terror” of the events that happened on September 11, 2001. Some of this is from the perspective of people working at Fox News, while the bulk of it is from coverage of the attack and interviews with various people involved in response to the attack. These including the military responders, replays of radio/telephone conversations between people on the hijacked planes, and more.
Senator Kyle: 911 Anniversary Should Make Us Think Hard
Senator Jon Kyle (R-AZ) delivered this week’s GOP Weekly Address, and it contains an important message for all Americans. “The enemy is the militant Islamist ideology that candidly, boldly and uncompromisingly seeks to destroy liberal western culture and governments and replace them with the medieval concept of an Islamist caliphate governed by Sharia law.”
Nine Years Since 911: What Have We Learned?
When I ask myself what we have learned since that terrible day on 911 and I consider all the “useful idiots” defending the Ground Zero Victory Mosque, I’m tempted to say in disgust, “Not a darned thing.” But when I consider the massive outcry from the American people who overwhelmingly oppose this abomination despite what our worthless leaders say, I take heart.
Free To Choose – For Now
The blessing of America is that we live under a constitution that celebrates the right for each and every person to speak freely in service to their deepest held beliefs. We should not allow any distorted sense of political correctness, or fear of militant reprisals, discourage us from exercising this cherished right. If we do, we may one day be forced to choose our faith at the barrel of a gun.
