America’s Great Unbridgeable Divide

For quite a while now, I have been thinking that the United States is in much bigger trouble than many people even imagine.  There is a spiritual and ideological divide in our country that cannot be bridged.  And since Barack Obama invaded the White House, that divide has grown even wider and has firmly cemented itself in the heart of America.

Over the weekend I read Patrice Lewis’ column titled, “A House Divided.” Mrs. Lewis writes a weekly article for WorldNetDaily, and I enjoy reading her pieces.  She is a “real” woman, grounded in truth and love of our country.  Her latest column points out what I firmly believe:  that America is divided beyond repair, and the only solution may be to actually, physically divide the country.

Many people will, of course, scoff at the very idea as being impossible.  Well, what solution can there be to a nation already divided?  The truth of the matter is made clear in the Bible: a house or nation divided against itself cannot stand and will come to desolation.  In the Gospels, this was stated by Jesus who had been accused of casting out demons by the power of Satan.  Jesus was pointing out the absurdity of the accusations by saying that if Satan is divided against himself, then his kingdom cannot stand.  It was Jesus’ illustration of a truth that applies in all areas of life: where there is division, there can be no unity, and without unity, there is brokenness.  Division leaves our country ripe for destruction.

In making the points of her article, Mrs. Lewis gives a couple of examples of leftist sentiments against some of her writing and against the people who attended Glenn Beck’s 8-28 rally.  She writes,

“In reading an article speculating about how many people showed up at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally in August, one person said, “Regardless of how many, it was just a huge conglomeration of narrow-minded, racist, homophobic ignorant idiots scared of progress and anything different. … [W]hat’s next, a march to prove the earth is flat?”

Another commented, “80,000 nut jobs or 200,000 nut jobs … does it really matter how many nut jobs showed up? They had a choice to go to a nut job rally or stay home [to] molest [their] kids or polish [their] guns.”

Do these seem like the type of people with whom we could ever see eye-to-eye? To be fair, conservatives often say things that are just as nasty about progressives. We cannot compromise.

That’s why I don’t believe this nation can survive much longer as a single entity. Our divisions run deeper and wider than ever before.”

I agree with Mrs. Lewis, but before we get down to dividing the country, which would likely mean a brutal civil war, I would hope we would make every effort to defeat liberalism, socialism, progressivism, or whatever you prefer to call the ideology of the left.  We will never agree with them, and there is no common ground with them.  Regardless of what some people claim, we can’t all just get along.  Just like with the Islamists, those on the left must be defeated and expelled from their places of power.

The contrast between the two sides within our country has never been more stark.  Those of us on the right love our country and want to see it restored to its former greatness.  We want to remove much of the overarching power that the government, including the judiciary, now holds.  Those on the left hate our country and want to see it transformed into a socialist state with even more power given to an already massive government.  Socialism is the transitional step to communism.

Those on the left have made great headway toward their goals.  They’ve been working steadily toward socialism for about a hundred years, so those of us on the right are behind in the fight.  Those on the left have infiltrated all our institutions, and it will be very difficult to purge them from the places into which they have installed themselves.  Though the task is difficult, we must not give up; the stakes are too high.

Award-winning author and journalist, Joan Swirsky, has written an excellent article detailing the seriousness of our situation here in America.  In her piece titled, “The Midterm Elections and the Communist Manifesto,” Ms. Swirsky goes into great detail describing the goals of the left, and they aren’t pretty.  She writes that the left is working toward nothing short of a Karl Marx communist utopia, and she lays out the agenda that the left has been moving to achieve.  She points out that America is in a dangerous place it has never been before.  She also includes a very apt rundown of leftist battle plan points from an American version of the Communist Manifesto which was reportedly entered into the Congressional Record in 1963.  Some of the 45 goals in it include these,

“-Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

-Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind.

-Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

-Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

-Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

-Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, and policy-making positions. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

-Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible. Eliminate prayer or any phrase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

-Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

-Infiltrate and gain control of unions.

-Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

-Discredit the family as an institution.”

There you go!  I would say the left gets an A-plus for their tireless work during the 20th century in accomplishing these long-held, evil goals.  The people who hold these goals and beliefs are the ones we must defeat.  Those who would impose the above list on our country must be removed from places of power–somehow.

America’s great, unbridgeable divide is between those who love God, country and family and those who hate God, country and family.  To those on the left, what I say is ridiculously called “hate speech.”  How ironic!  True hate exists on the left and always has.  What we hate is evil, and evil hates good; it’s really that simple.

I don’t want to see our country literally divided, so we must do all we can to defeat those on the left, because we will never agree.  We can make a start on November the 2nd.

  1. Well written and well said! I’m praying for God to RE Bless Americans and to wake the ignorant people who think Obama and his gang are out to help them in any way. We are so divided.
It’s really very very sad. Awareness is like the truth. It will set you FREE. Thanks for the awareness, Gina.
I have actually looked at this from every angle and you are so right or should I say right and correct about this take over of America. We didn’t see it coming and that is the problem.
There is HOPE though. Novemeber is just around the corner now. And if that does not work…….you may be on the money about an all out civil war and division. It’s simple. There are those who want to take something that does not belong to them. That would be our Freedoms here in America.
Who is this man posing as the President? The people who voted for him didn’t know him. That leads some of us to believe that he does not want anyone to really know who he is. He has sure promised more than he can deliver. I think we are finally beginning to know what kind of person he is.

  2. Well, Obama is doing what he said he would do before the election: fundamentally transform the United States of America. The dirty bum!!!

  3. Civil war ? Not sure just who would be fighting who.

  4. Readers Digest version of reality, in this world the spiritual becomes the physical. Our hearts desires will eventually become our reality. If we are spiritually divided, we will become physically divided. However, there is a hope. There will be a righteous awakening on Nov 2 having been started by prayer and intercession years ago. The believers in Christ and his Word will prevail. The USA was created by God, and will not be destroyed. In your prayers claim the following promise
    From psalm 37…
    10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

11 But the meek will inherit the land
    and enjoy great peace.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous
    and gnash their teeth at them;

13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword
    and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.

15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

16 Better the little that the righteous have
    than the wealth of many wicked;

17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the LORD upholds the righteous.

  5. Peggy Noonan wrote a column in 1995 titled “A Separate Peace” and Gina Miller’s comments here could be a “Part 2” to Noonan’s column. In it Noonan writes:

“I think there is an unspoken subtext in our national political culture right now. In fact I think it’s a subtext to our society. I think that a lot of people are carrying around in their heads, unarticulated and even in some cases unnoticed, a sense that the wheels are coming off the trolley and the trolley off the tracks. That in some deep and fundamental way things have broken down and can’t be fixed, or won’t be fixed any time soon. That our pollsters are preoccupied with ‘right track’ and ‘wrong track’ but missing the number of people who think the answer to ‘How are things going in America?’ is ‘Off the tracks and hurtling forward, toward an unknown destination.’

  6. That’s a promise he kept, for sure, Gina. I’ve noticed more people starting to take notice of what is going on in this GREAT Country of ours. I think God will work through all of us. He is certainly using your talents! Keep the Faith and always know “The Truth Will Keep us FREE”.
    God Bless America again!

  7. well done, well said.

  8. I must ask this. If the USA was created by God, how or who created Canada ?

  9. Wow, Doc! That’s a powerful piece, Ms. Noonan wrote! It gives me chills what Ted Kennedy said! Oh, man–oh, man!! These people KNOW! They KNOW what’s coming!

  10. dr theo

I believe you are old enough to remember the 60’s and the tremendous divide in this country. Riots in the street, people killed, property destroyed and a definite left shift among many Americans as bad or worse than today. Did the country survive ? Of course. Society gradually drifted back to the right without civil wars or us plunging into some unknown destination.

No miracles or revelations, but merely Americans shifting more to the right. This back and forth is what has made us strong since day one. What is happening today is not new here and in fact common in our history. I am glad the left has had its way for the last two years, because now Americans can get a taste of it and decide if they really want to go that way.

My belief is that we don’t, but these ideological shifts will continue as they have since day one. They test our strength. Armageddon isn’t here, but just a left shift which we have seen before and weathered before.

  11. Hi, Brian.

The point of the article is that we certainly don’t want civil war or to divide our country–we want to defeat liberalism, pure and simple.

  12. God Bless Canada too !!

  13. Actually Orson Scott Card–one of my favorite sci-fi writers–wrote a book about four years ago on the subject of a modern civil war in America. It was called “Empire.” Not one of his best works, but still pretty good. I’d recommend it, especially if the topic of the cultural and political divide in America interests you.

As a side note, I began reading it on a flight to D.C. and–not to give away too much–there is a scene of a terrorist attack on the White House from around the Washington Monument, and I was at the Monument a day after I read that section. It imprinted that passage from the book firmly in my mind because I could look around at all the angles and sites he described and imagine vividly how it might have happened.

  14. Hi Gina

Again, appreciate the article because it makes me think. But liberalism can’t be ‘defeated’ , because to do so would be to defeat a peoples thought process. I don’t think we want to defeat how people think, since it is one of our inalienable rights.

We can subdue liberalism, vote it out of power the next cycle etc etc. No liberalism can only be controlled. Never exterminated. We don’t want that kind of society , I don’t think, where peoples thoughts are eliminated, because that is the only way to truly defeat liberalism.

And besides, if it were exterminated, what in the world would we argue over !!!

  15. The moral foundations that give strength to the “superstructure” of our country were stronger and more intact then.

We have since had 40+ years of termites eating away at that foundation. I don’t know if the frame of our country will stand much more of that shifting without collapsing.

  16. Thanks for the suggestion on ‘Empire’. Will order it pronto. I just want to puke though when people casually mention civil war, because I am sure they know not of what they say.

  17. HA! Right, Brian. Of course, I’m not talking about controlling people’s thoughts–impossible without a change of someone’s heart.

Defeating liberalism means removing it from power, cutting off its tentacles that grip our schools, our judiciary, our nongovernmental organizations, etc. Liberals can run around all their lives thinking their dumb thoughts if they want to, but we need to get them out of power, because they are a danger to themselves and others AND to our great republic.

  18. Collapsing ? Look at the backlash after less than just two years of Pelosi, Reid, Obama etc. When FDR was president, people were convinced that America’s moral foundation was done for and socialism here to stay and it wasn’t. This is just a phase or cycle we go through. Our foundation is plenty strong. Of that I am convinced.

  19. Cycles like this come up where good people rise up and make some repairs to the foundations (I remember it happening during the time of Reagan, and a bit after the 911 attacks), but ALL the damage never gets repaired, so that after several cycles of this, it grows more and more decayed and weak.

I wish you were right, but despite the incredible movement of the Tea Party, I have seen no evidence that the damage is anywhere near fully repaired, or that the decay has been stopped in its tracks.

  20. ” Liberals can run around all their lives thinking their dumb thoughts… ”

LOL. Man, you don’t mince words and have a way of distilling things. Love it.

  21. If I find the crystal ball or time machine, I’ll let you know. I am not naive or pie in the sky, but I honestly have full faith in America for the foreseeable( sp? ) future.

And if your concern is a religious, moral one, then look at what Jesus faced. Why can’t our current moral foundation thus again be retrieved ?

  22. That’s a fantastic question and one I’ve grappled with for a long time.

Based on the lessons of history, it seems that up to a point, there CAN be revivals of a civilization. But beyond whatever that intangible point is, it just doesn’t seem possible, and I don’t know exactly how to recognize that point or what causes that point to be breached.

I suspect it has something to do with–and this is hard to articulate–a culture embracing a superior set of values and then, for whatever reason, becoming jaded to them. It’s almost as if whatever brings on that jaded state “immunizes” a culture to ever seriously returning to those values without a cleansing so catastrophic that the subsequent culture can hardly be said to be the same one that existed before (e.g. the rise and fall of Rome, and the subsequent rise of the individual European states in the renaissance).

I pray to God we haven’t crossed that point, but I am not at all assured we haven’t. Though I fear we have, I work as though we haven’t. As JQA said, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.”

  23. ” hard to articulate ‘

I think you hit the nail on the with the ‘jaded’ scenario. Will ponder on that one for a while.

As a Texas football coach once said ‘ You better dance with who brung you ‘

  24. “Dance with the one who brung you” is timeless, eternal wisdom!

  25. Of course, my last comment was meant for you, Brian, but I didn’t hit the “reply” button.

  26. Okay. Disqus must be messed up, because I see that I DID reply to Brian. Oh, well…

  27. I knew we were in trouble in 1983 in when we gave in to the rag heads in the root after they blew up the building with 283 Marines in it. what is surpising Reagan was the president then. This is when we should have started killing these bastards. now all we can do is be tolerent. 2 buzzards setting on a tree limb. One says to the other i have not ate a bite in a week. Patience go to hell i’m going to kill something. We be to be non-tolerent and go out and kill them. I now know why the WW2 vets hate the Japs and a lot still hate them 60 years later. I will never trust them ever. SEMPER FI BROTHERS

  28. “… Her latest column points out what I firmly believe: that America is divided beyond repair, and the only solution may be to actually, physically divide the country. … Many people will, of course, scoff at the very idea as being impossible. …”

What’s impossible is for people who spend their entire lives processing the world around them as “us versus them” to ever exist without a “them.”

They thrive on conflict and competition, and just as soon as they would get rid of one perceived enemy they would simply create another.

That said, if the country were literally divided, they’d simply turn on one another… they will never have peace, they can’t live in peace, they don’t want peace.

  29. Thank you for your service, Habu!

  30. I got curious about ‘ Dance With the One Who Brung Ya’ and best I can tell was that there was a very popular song in the 1920’s with the title ‘ I Am Going To Dance With the One Who Brung Me’.

Apparently, my date to our highschool prom had never heard it 🙁

  31. Best I can tell is that phrase came from a very popular 1920’s song ‘ I Am Going To Dance With The One Who Brung Me ‘ .

Apparently my date to our highschool prom had never heard it 🙁

  32. Prerad, I grew up in an entirely different world (1950’s) where there were Republicans and Democrats and some fringe political groups, but never a thought that they we were not all Americans, with a common set of basic values and appreciation of our country. We had an interest in advancing some political agenda or another, but no one thought that America was fundamentally flawed and in need of “fundamental transformation” (BHO).

America today is very much different. Your contention that the conflict is internal and would exist whatever the political circumstances is not historically accurate. The conflict is the result of a very great divide between those that still believe in the America of our Founders and those that seek to “transform” America into something very much different, more like a “brave new world.”

Dr. Rutledge is much more optomistic than I. I don’t believe this is more of the cyclic ebb and flow of society that we have witnessed for hundreds of years. The conceptual difference between Right and Left today is every bit as divisive as was North and South in the 1860’s.

  33. I think they do, Gina. And Ms. Noonan correctly assessed that the attitude of the elites is that they may as well grab all they can before the trolley crashes, since they believe there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

  34. It was probably for the best, Brian. Now you have your wife. 🙂

  37. Now, the comments are working properly.

I wanted to thank you, Habu, for commenting and thank you very much for your invaluable service to our country.

    God bless you, my friend.

  38. Gads. I spoke too soon. I give up.

  39. Ha. Isn’t that the truth that as soon as one says things are now working well, the darn thing breaks again.

  40. Yep! But now it’s fixed. Disqus had a problem with comments posting as replies in Internet Explorer, which is what my browser is. I tried to write back to you a few times, and you probably didn’t see my replies because they didn’t post as such, so you didn’t get them in your email.

I wrote a reply to you on the American Women article with the feminism discussion between you and Bob, but it didn’t post as a reply to you and was just a stand-alone comment. It’s still up, though, if you want to read it and argue with me. 🙂
