Some people are mentally unwilling or unable to accept the evidence that communist China is a belligerent nation that the U.S. will have to contend with sooner or later.
When I recently cited some of the recent evidence of the growing threat from this belligerent communist country, liberals did what liberals always do in the face of threats to our country: obfuscate and bury their heads in the sand.
But the list of aggressive acts and statements from China continues to grow. Gordon G. Chang at PajamasMedia has a piece out yesterday which lists some of these things.
One is the repeated, belligerent behavior of China last year toward the USNS Impeccable in the South China Sea in international waters. The student of history will remember that it wasn’t too many years ago that a Chinese fighter rammed one of our reconnaissance aircraft, causing it to make an emergency landing in China…where the crew was held for nearly two weeks before being released; our aircraft was chopped up into piece before being sent back to us.
On May 24 in a vast meeting room inside the grounds of the state guesthouse at Diaoyutai in Beijing, Rear Adm. Guan Youfei of the People’s Liberation Army rose to speak…
Everything, Guan said, that is going right in U.S. relations with China is because of China. Everything, he continued, that is going wrong is the fault of the United States. Guan accused the United States of being a “hegemon” and of plotting to encircle China with strategic alliances. The official saved the bulk of his bile for U.S. arms sales to China’s nemesis, Taiwan — Guan said these prove that the United States views China as an enemy.
Given China’s embrace of Marxist totalitarianism, their willingness to slaughter millions of their own people including the Tiananmen Square Massacre, their massive military buildup, and their belligerence toward the United States, we would be fools not to view China as an enemy. Some indeed are such fools, but it is China that wants to be our enemy, rather than the other way around.
Lest we think this guy is some wacko or rogue, consider this from the Washington Post:
“Admiral Guan was representing what all of us think about the United States in our hearts,” a senior Chinese official, who deals with the United States regularly, said on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with a reporter. “It may not have been politically correct, but it wasn’t an accident.”
“It’s silly to talk about factions when it comes to relations with the United States,” said a general in the PLA who also spoke on the condition of anonymity. “The army follows the party. Do you really think that Guan did this unilaterally?”
“This time China must punish the US,” said Major-General Yang Yi, a naval officer. “We mustmake them hurt.” A major-general in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Luo Yuan, told a television audience that more missiles would be deployed against Taiwan. And a PLA strategist,Colonel Meng Xianging, said China would qualitatively upgrade its military over the next 10 years to force a showdown “when we’re strong enough for a hand-to-hand fight with the US.”
Winston Churchill is one of my favorite world leaders of all time. One of the reasons why I admire him so much is that, when everyone else in Europe was fondling olive branches and seeking to appease Herr Hitler, Churchill was the lone voice of caution and warning. Churchill was eventually proved right…and left to clean up the mess made by the appeasers.
The cost of appeasement in Europe was tens of millions of dead people, with more than a few of them American. I am afraid the cost of appeasement in Asia will be tens of millions of dead people…with most of them American.
