“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!” – Samuel Adams

Survey: One-Third of Doctors May Leave Practice if Health Care Bill Passes

As government health care has taken on a larger and larger portion of the health care pie in America, doctors and medical facilities have found it harder and harder to continue making the bottom line while providing services.

In order to maintain even a facade of fiscal sanity with regard to all the taxpayer money they’re wasting, the government forces medical facilities and personnel to accept payments for government health care services (Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, etc.) at prices below the market value of those goods and services–in many cases, not just below market value, but below the cost of providing those goods and services.

As any American with even the most elementary knowledge of economics understands, such a scenario cannot be maintained indefinitely. The most elementary economic knowledge also informs us that the socialist fantasy of waving a Marxist wand or making a decree will not magically make goods and services pop into existence from nothing, either.  Nor does the cost of a medical school education, or the cost of malpractice insurance to guard against frivolous gold-digging lawsuits come for free.

And so it is that our Marxist president and his Marxist comrades in congress are poised to make our ailing socialism-infested health care system even worse, and perhaps push it over the edge.

From CNS News:

Nearly one-third of all practicing physicians may leave the medical profession if President Obama signs current versions of health-care reform legislation into law, according to a survey published in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

The survey, which was conducted by the Medicus Firm, a leading physician search and consulting firm based in Atlanta and Dallas, found that a majority of physicians said health-care reform would cause the quality of American medical care to “deteriorate” and it could be the “final straw” that sends a sizeable number of doctors out of medicine.

More than 29 percent (29.2) percent of the nearly 1,200 doctors who responded to the survey said they would quit the profession or retire early if health reform legislation becomes law. If a public option were included in the legislation, as several liberal Senators have indicated they would like, the number would jump to 45.7 percent.

A wise person or people learn from the mistakes of others; only arrogant or stupid people think they can escape the consequences of foolish actions where others have been caught.

We have had lessons around the world for the past century of the failure of socialism and socialist health care systems: the collapsed Soviet Union, every Eastern Bloc nation (that are now free), Cuba, North Korea, China, and “free” nations like England, Canada, Sweden, Japan and more.  We even have a lesson in the abysmal failure of socialism from the earliest days of American colonialism. And we have a modern lesson about the pitfalls of government health care from the People’s Republic of Massachusetts.

Yet some people refuse to learn; some people would rather seek a free ride at their fellow American’s expense…or they plan to live high on the hog like the pigs of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”

We definitely need change in our health care system.  But the change we need is to purge it of the government meddling that has infected it for so long. We must get the federal government permanently out of the business of health care, and move our health care system back to a free market model that involves greater consumer participation in health care costs and decisions, and that fosters competition–both of which will drive down health care costs.

Most Americans are smarter than this, and most Americans are more committed to preserving our Constitution and American values than to sanction this abomination. If they are not heard now, they will be heard in November.

Great stuff Bill. I wonder if those two CNN anchors finally understood what Dick Armey was telling them. That governments should not be allowed to make their own rules or break the existing ones, if there are any rules left that haven't already been broken. I think it was obvious they (anchors) didn't know history or the Constitution. Those CNN anchors really should be ashamed of themselves, as journalists or whatever they call themselves. On the other hand, CNN needs to be commended for covering the rally. I have to hand to you, CNN, at least you're not like MSNBC anymore. Thanks Bob.

Tom Price (R) Georgia asks' ” There is a 500 billion dollar slash in senior medical care… Is that what you want?” No, well kind of yes. If the bill passes, I hope it doesn't turn into another political entitlement program like Medicare, and Social Security. Because then (years later) we'll have Republicans complaining about cutting the funding for National Health Care in half, like they do now about Medicare in this bill. Medicare is half reason we are in this mess, increasing debt and increasing a dependency minded public. But that would require all politicians realizing they have a real spending problem. We can not afford this. Look at Medicare. Trillions and trillions in debt.
I know this bill won't fix anything, especially Medicare. This just seems interesting.

This is extremely wrong. This survey was not conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, nor was it published by the New England Journal of Medicine. It's only a pool of 1,000 doctors. It was actually conducted by the Medicus Firm, and is in no way a scientific poll. Fox, and the like, are lovingly giving out misinformation to support their opinions.

A quick check of the facts reveals that it is Clarissa who is dispensing misinformation.

Neither this article nor the parent article at CNS News mentions Fox News. The parent article does however state that the survey was conducted by Medicus of “nearly 1,200 doctors who responded to the survey”, and provides a link to the New England Journal of Medicine (http://www.nejmjobs.org/rpt/physician-survey-he...) where this survey is mentioned.

You don't have to like the results of the survey, but you don't get to pretend it didn't happen, either.
