President Barack Obama and his politbureau of central planners are up to it again. They are busy working on that vision of “remaking America” into his vision of a glorious socialist utopia. This time it’s coming from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and his asinine announcement that transportation policy will no longer favor “motorized” transportation.
South Dakota State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Gordon Howie announced to a standing-room-only crowd today that he has prepared a motion for the last day of the 2010 legislative session to reintroduce his Health Care Freedom Act for quick passage that day. Howie said procedures exist to suspend the rules to allow consideration of a bill even on the last day of the session, and that we need this bill to protect the people of South Dakota against the mandates of the government health care bill approved in the U.S. Congress last Sunday.
Apparently it isn’t only patriotic, freedom-loving Americans who realize that if this unconstitutional government health care plan is allowed to be implemented, it will be a devastating blow to America. Many around the world see this as a sign that America is on the decline…with some of them hungry to replace us as king of the hill.
The Commerce Clause neither contains a requirement nor any obligation upon individual Americans. The Commerce Clause solely includes commerce between states and other sovereign entities. Just living in the United States does not constitute “interstate commerce.” If this health care bill is allowed to stand, a mere clause of the Constitution will have been perverted into a mechanism for totalitarian control. A tyranny will surely have risen.
Glenn Beck has (predictably) caught lots of grief from socialists because of his recent condemnation of “social justice” and the “social gospel” as being socialistic and Marxist and not in harmony with American values or those taught in the Bible. And while he could have been a little more clear when he initially made this statement, he’s absolutely right.
I’ve told stories several times of my experiences with government health care, both with U.S. military health care and the British National Health Service where I lived for three years. I have pointed out many times that when something is made “free,” people will over-use and abuse it. I know that not through mere common sense or logic or understanding of human nature (though all of these things will lead you to that conclusion) but through experience and observation. And some Americans already realize that Santa Claus is comin’ to town.
The Republican leadership has sadly demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that they are not interested in advancing Republican values in Washington. It’s time the people removed this burden from them in the primary election season, to make room for conservative candidates who will advance conservative values, and who will fight for the survival of our republic.
State Senator and Gubernatorial candidate Gordon Howie says it’s not too late to stop government run health care in South Dakota. He is inviting all liberty-minded citizens to join him at the Health Care Freedom Rally at 12:15 on Wednesday, March 24th at the Best Western Ramkota in Rapid City regarding the Health Care Freedom Act he submitted to the South Dakota Legislature.
