Health Care Sovereignty Bill Advances in South Dakota Legislature

On Monday I discussed several bills in the South Dakota legislature opposed to the current federal attempt to take over health care in America.  These included SB 137, SCR 1 and HJR 1001.

Later that day on Monday, SCR1 passed the state Senate 22-10.  The “Nay” votes were Senators Bartling, Turbak Berry, Gillespie, Jerstad, Hundstad, Kloucek, Merchant, Nesselhuf, and Peterson.  It has now gone to the state House for consideration.

SB 137 is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate State Affairs Committee on Feb. 10.  This bill asserts South Dakota’s sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendments:

Section 1. Pursuant to the ninth and tenth amendments to the United States Constitution, any law made by Congress which interferes with the right of any person or entity to choose private health care systems or private health care coverage, or which imposes any penalty, tax, fee, or fine, of any type, for declining to purchase health care coverage or participate in any particular health care system or plan, is null and void within the state of South Dakota.

HJR 1001, proposing an amendment to the South Dakota Constitution protecting the freedom of South Dakotans with regard to health care, has not yet been assigned a hearing date.

But to see this 2-1 passage of SCR1 is heartening.  For too long, the states and the people have allowed power hungry usurpers in the federal government to run roughshod over our freedom.

It seems within the past year, as we have seen unprecedented federal power grabs and assaults on the U.S. Constitution, the people and the states have finally had enough and are mobilizing against this threat to our liberties.  States all across our great land have moved against an overbearing federal government, and it is beautiful to see!

ObamaCare and all manifestations of socialized medicine are patently unconstitutional, and the people of America–and South Dakota–are not going to stand for it.
