Another Poll Looking Gloomy For Democrats
The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll is also looking ugly for President Obama and his fellow socialists, er, Democrats.
- Obama’s job approval is virtually tied at 47% approve, 46% disapprove
- On the economy, it’s 51% disapprove and 42% approve
- Amazingly, it’s 49% approve and 42% disapprove on foreign policy
- Congress‘ job approval rate is at 22% approve, 68% disapprove
- The largest block of people (34%) out of six possible answers rate congressional job performance as “one of the worst” (the lowest possible rating)
On a scale of “very positive,” “somewhat positive,” “neutral,” “somewhat negative,” “very negative,” and “don’t know,” the Democrat Party’s positives are at 35% while their negatives are at 45%, with 19% neutral.
The Republican Party isn’t doing too well, either; they are at 28% positive and 45% negative, with 27% neutral.
As we saw recently with the Rasmussen poll, the Tea Party (as a theoretical political party, not just an ideological movement), the Tea Party is doing pretty well. In fact, their favorables are considerably better than the Democrat or Republican Party (page 11 of the poll).
All the polls in recent months show people are fed up with this unprecendented push toward socialism in our country, and are eager to get rid of this crop of socialists in congress.
But if the Republicans want to be able to harness that outrage, they’d better stop playing footsie with the opposition and showing more leadership. There are still too many RINOs in the GOP like Olympia Snow, Susan Collins, and the frequently capitulatory John McCain, and House and Senate GOP leadership has been too soft and ineffectual.
If Republicans want to turn around the recent poll results which show hypothetical “Tea Party” candidates rating better than Republican candidates, the leadership is going to have to get more confrontational against liberal policies and show more dedication to the conservative principles that define the Republican Party.
There are signs the GOP is starting to do the right things, but the clock is starting to tick already on the 2010 elections, and the Elephants have no time to waste if they’re going to prove they’re ready to lead. They have a lot to overcome after the shameful job they did during the Bush years, and their failure to learn hard lessons in 2006 and 2008.
For the sake of the country, I hope and pray they get their act together soon.
