Senate Health Care Vote Coming This Weekend

I just returned from an evening meeting of Citizens for Liberty in Rapid City.

We outgrew our old meeting room at Godfather’s Pizza and moved to the larger meeting room at Golden Corral.  A few meetings ago, we outgrew that meeting room and tonight we ended up taking up the entire end of the restaurant; I’m not a good counter of crowds, but this had to have been considerably over 100 people, and probably the largest meeting–short of a Tea Party-type event–we’ve ever had.

It is so fantastically wonderful to work with such an incredible bunch of folks so dedicated to our God-given republic. They not only care–as so many Americans already do–but they’re willing to put time, money and sweat into saving this great gift of ours.  If you’re a patriotic, country-loving American, you can’t help but leave one of those meetings pumped up much higher than when you walked in.

Several elected officials were at the meeting tonight.  Our congressional delegation (Senator John Thune, Senator Tim Johnson, and Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin) are always invited, but of course we know that their duties keep them in Washington D.C. much of the time.

Still, Senator Thune’s West River Director, Qusi Al-Haj, was there tonight and he gave an update on the government health care bill Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) hopes to ram through the Senate this weekend.

Some of the highlights:

  • It’s an $850 billion (on paper) bill
  • It won’t be fully implemented until 2014 (long after the current bunch of scoundrels is gone–whether their leaving is their choice or not
  • The 10-year cost is projected at $2.5 TRILLION (yes I said TRILLION)
  • It includes a “public option” (aka government plan) that supposedly has (for the moment) an opt-out
  • It includes taxpayer-funded abortion

The bill is scheduled for a vote Saturday November 21 at 8:00 pm Easter Time, in an unusual Saturday vote.

Senator Thune will be speaking on the Senate floor a couple of times in the next two days against this unconstitutional socialist monstrosity.  The one of those two times I remember is 11:00 am Saturday, so you might be able to catch him on CSPAN.

Folks, we’re down to the wire on this one. The U.S. House has already passed a government health care bill.  This is our last chance to stop it.

Our senators need to hear from the American people–hear from us NOW and hear from us LOUDLY.  You can find contact information on your senator here. They need to receive calls or emails or both right away.

They need to hear that we will do everything in our power to put them out to pasture at our next electoral opportunity if the betray their oath to the Constitution by voting for this thing.

Let’s roll!
