I Have Returned

Dr. Theo, my family and me
I’m back home after two weeks of running all over a great swath of these United States. Though I found it impossible to stay completely away, I got a lot of much-needed time off from the world of politics and current events.
(Thanks to Carrie and Dr. Theo for moderating comments while I was away!)
I spent some time with family, many of whom I hadn’t seen in a long time. I also enjoyed having the time to just mess around and have fun with my children. One day we took a long hike through some woods where I spent countless hours playing and roaming as a kid. I found the walk down memory lane refreshing, and I think they enjoyed hearing me talk about how their old man used to spend his time when he was a kid (if they didn’t enjoy it, they at least did a good job of humoring me).
We did a lot of driving over the past two weeks, covering somewhere north of 3,000 miles altogether. In fact, on Friday, we were in five different states over the course of the day, a couple of which I’d never been to.
One of the places we stopped was the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. It was every bit as good as I’d heard, and more. My family and I were there when the doors opened, and left just 4 minutes before closing. We had a very full day that I’ll tell you more about in a few days, along with some pictures.
I also met with Dr. Theo during our travels and had a great time chatting with him, even if it was too short. He’s every bit the great guy he seems to be here on the pages of Dakota Voice. I’ve learned a lot from him in recent years, and have benefited immeasurably from his encouragement. After our meeting, I’m sure our friendship will only continue to grow stronger.
I still have some unpacking to do and a lot of settling in, but plan to share more about my travels in the days to come.
Traveling so much of the United States in the last two weeks has been refreshing and invigorating. It has been wonderful to see so much of the great land and the great people that make up the land of the free and home of the brave. I am so blessed to be an American and to live in this wonderful gift from God!
