Senate Cmte Upholds Abstinence Funding
Abstinence education passed the first hurdle this week after the Senate Finance Committee narrowly voted to restore federal funding for the sex education program. In a 12-11 vote Tuesday night, the Committee restored $50 million a year in federal funding for abstinence-only education in public schools.
Town Council Votes to Permit Meeting Invocations
The Lodi, California City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to allow prayers to be said in Jesus’ name before council meetings. The 5-0 vote repeals the city’s current policy requiring prayers to be “non-sectarian and non-denominational.” A new policy allowing uncensored invocations will be developed.
