House Plans to Slip Hate Crimes Bill into Defense Bill, says FRC
Leaders in the U.S. House plan to slip the hate crimes bill into the 2010 Defense Authorization bill that could be voted on as early as Thursday, a conservative public policy organization warned. In a move similar to the Senate, the House leadership reportedly wants to add the difficult-to-pass amendment to the high priority defense budget, according to Family Research Council.
Support for Govt Health Care Low Among White Evangelicals
Only 18 percent of white Protestant evangelicals support the current health care bills in Congress, a new report indicates. The figure is sharply down from March when 48 percent of white evangelicals expressed support for the idea of extending health insurance to every citizen, reported The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
More Bad News on Obama Ed Official Kevin Jennings
As with so many appointments by President Barack Obama, the bad news on Education Department appointee Kevin Jennings keeps coming. Now we learn that he advocates teaching kindergartners that homosexual behavior is normal and healthy, and that children are “being aggressively recruited to become heterosexual in this country.”
The White House or the Star Wars Cantina on Tatooine?
Obama’s inner-circle is shaping-up like the bar scene from Star Wars. It’s a swollen throng of unaccountable czars and policy advisors comprised of some of the most bizarre fringe leftists imaginable. As mom always said, you’re known by the company you keep and Obama keeps some downright creepy company.
Michelle Bachmann: The New Voice of the GOP?
Sarah Palin remains the brightest star on the GOP roster, but another figure has emerged to galvanize America’s conservative base. Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, 53, was elected in 2006 in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, which includes the suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul, not the friendliest territory for a pro-life, pro-drilling, anti-tax increase critic of President Obama’s “economic Marxism.”
Rebuilding in a Hostile Environment
Part of the discussion in the TEA Party movement has been centered on how to deal with people whose playbook is Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. Some think the answer is to throw Alinsky’s and ACORN’s tactics right back at them. There is only one real way to deal with a bully, either on the playground or in the government.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Either you’re working to make life better, you’re reaping where you haven’t sown or you’re planting weeds in the neighbor’s garden. Believing in volunteerism and trying to help make my local community a place where neighbors know each other, a place where people gather to share common experiences and where good clean fun is part of life, recently I devoted many hours to what I will call my local MegaFest.
The Nurre Case: The Demise of Western Art and Culture?
Religion and religious expression have been objects of censorship in the public schools for quite some time. However, the intolerance of anything related to religion has taken a turn for the absurd in recent years. It makes no difference that the material in question does not proselytize, or that it was presented to people who by and large do not know that it was religious, or even that it is not meant to be religious. What matters is what school officials consider to be religious.
Film to Examine Transsexual’s Church Ordination Quest
The efforts of a transsexual man seeking ordination in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has been documented on film, which is set to release next year. “Thy Will Be Done: A Transsexual Woman’s Journey Through Family and Faith” follows Sara Herwig, who transitioned from male to female and is seeking to “fulfill God’s call.”
A strange case and a doctor’s “right of conscience”
Robert says that he first became aware of his “disability” at age 10. It became a disability “that would rule [his] life.” It robbed the enthusiasm of his youth and kept him from enjoying relationships, male and female, during that time of life when he should have been playing sports, interacting with peers in common [...]
