Without heroes, what will inspire us to go beyond mediocrity and cynicism? What will keep us from becoming bored and boring?” And what do bored people do? They seek after the idols of amusement.”
Celebrity Justice in a Just Society
Cynics say the term “celebrity justice” is an oxymoron. They point to the cases of O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson as examples; but most recently they point to Roman Polanski as the reason for their cynicism. However, after 30 years of evading justice, the notorious director—indicted in 1977 for drugging, raping, and sodomizing a 13-year-old girl—may finally be required give an account for his actions.
House Passes Hate Crimes Bill Hidden in Defense Bill
The House voted Thursday in favor of expanding hate crimes protection to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. The bill was attached to the 2010 Defense Authorization bill. In a 281 to 146 vote, the House approved a measure that conservatives say was sneaked into a must-pass defense policy bill.
Thousands of Christians March in Jerusalem in Support of Israel
More than 5,000 Christian pilgrims from over 80 nations marched through the streets of Jerusalem on Tuesday to show their support for the nation of Israel. Joining tens of thousands of Israelis, the Christian pilgrims made their way from a park near parliament to the gates of the Old City chanting their support and praying for peace in the Holy Land.
Christians File Suit for Discriminatory Arrest in New Hampshire
A Christian legal firm filed suit Wednesday on behalf of two Christian men who were arrested for witnessing on the streets. Mark Frost and Jayson Gardner were charged last year under a N.H. law against “unreasonable or loud” noise. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund argue the men’s free speech rights were denied.
Gov. Schwarzenegger Urged to Veto Bill Honoring Homosexual Activist
Social conservatives are calling upon Christians in California to rally against a bill that – if passed – would pressure schools into honoring the late Harvey Milk. “Milk engaged in adult-child homosexual sex and, according to his biographer, ‘had a penchant for young waifs with substance abuse problems,’” noted Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families.
Group Seeks to Protect Christians from UN Religious Resolution
A ministry working with persecuted Christians launched a campaign Tuesday against a U.N. resolution that many human rights groups say can be manipulated to oppress religious minorities living in Muslim-majority countries. The Defamation of Religions Resolution, backed by the 57 Muslim-majority countries that make up the Organization of Islamic Conference, is expected to be proposed next month or later this year. It seeks to criminalize words or actions that are deemed defamatory towards a particular religion
