Chemung County and Atty Thomson are transparent, but for some reason, they seem to think they aren't. Or at least they've convinced themselves that they've successfully diverted attention from their inappropriate and unethical actions onto Sara Harvey -- which they haven't.

They claimed to be protecting Gary Harvey as they tried to kill him. If it were not for Sara, Gary Harvey would be long buried and it would be just another day in Chemung County because no one would have known the difference. But, they didn't get by with it because Sara Harvey stood up and she stood tall against them.

In Thomson's lawyer's bag of dirty tricks he makes yet an unproven, false accusation and he plants his dirty seed with a question instead of a statement (all the dirty lawyers of the world love this technique): "“Did Sara tamper with it? Did he pull it out?” Thomson said afterward. “We’re not sure, but my position was as guardian of him, we’re going to exercise a little caution here and make sure that the aide keeps an eye on Sara Harvey’s hands during the visit.”

I think the aides should be keeping an eye on you, Mr. Thomson, and everyone associated with Chemung County.

The fact that Chemung County tried to kill Gary Harvey can't be denied. Also the fact that Sara Harvey saved his life.

The tragic irony here is that Gary Harvey remains under the control of the very people who attempted to terminate his life.

No matter how Thomson and his coharts wrongfully try to make this about Sara Harvey, it's really always about them. It's about abuse and neglect of a vulnerable person. It's about Gary Harvey languishing in a hospital for months, and a nursing facility before that --- deprived of familiar surroundings, and the love of his wife and friends - and even his cat.

It's about Gary Harvey - a innocent person who committed no crime -- being treated worse than a convicted criminal by his court-appointed "protectors."

It's an American tragedy; and unbeliebably, it's happening right in front of our eyes.

Gina, in this day and age, it is difficult not to slide into the downer-mode. So many things are coming at us from so many different directions that it is difficult to duck and side-step it all.

Like you, I don't know how close we are to the end, but if we give up — I know we are closer than we would otherwise be. After all, it is when we stop believing… when we give up… that the darkness shall have a chance to devour us and we shall be no more!

Deborah, I think some are looking for excuses where there are no true excuses, so they can't even get the excuses right. Nevertheless, for all that has been wrong, I am going to have faith that Gary shall have a chance of a recovery level those excuse people hadn't counted on.

So right, Carrie.

The leftists/socialists, whatever we want to call them, have been gradually snapping up power for years and years. They're working their way toward near-total control of the population. I know I tend to have a fairly dreadful view of the future, but I don't think things are going to get much better. I thank God for people like you, Carrie, who have a positive, caring outlook. I don't mean to be a "downer." It's just that I keep reading the Bible and keep reading about the "very last days," and it is badness on a scale no one has ever seen in the history of the world. I don't know how close we are, but Jesus said, "...When you see all these things, know it is near, even at the door..." And, we are definitely seeing quite a number of those things of which He speaks.

Anyway, I know I'm slightly off-topic of poor Mr. and Mrs. Harvey. May the Lord be with them and their families and friends.

What is all this commotion about tampering with a feeding tube? ? ? ! ! It was only a 'fishline' on a defective trach. that was cut to prevent Gary from pulling on it! My understanding is that he only needed it to prevent the risk of aspirating.
When Gary went into that so called nursing facility he had 90% range of motion and mobility. The last time I saw him he was atrophied into a fetal, 90% immobile position due to the neglect of physical therapy. He was alert & responsive when he was admitted. Now Gary is almost catatonic. Some care!

Gina, those "so-called authorities" seem to be popping up all over the place and often when one least expects! I find it terrifying!

In Texas, they passed the "Futile Care Law"! It's my understanding that it was meant as a means for "someone" to make a decision for those who had "no one" to make the necessary decisions in cases where there literally was no hope!

For example, in cases where someone was definitely and literally brain dead, but being kept alive by the machines alone. Cases where once the machines were put in place, the hospital did not have the authority to turn them off without permission no matter what.

So, where the "Futile Care Law" seems to have started out innocently enough, it has expanded and been given an authority not right to give.

"Death Panels" are not myths!

They are very, very real!

Nice names doesn't take away what they truly are!!! -- DEATH PANELS!!!

Hi Carrie;
As someone who has known Gary and Sara Harvey for about twenty years now, I think that I can speak on their behalf. I worked with both of them until the time of Gary's unfortunate accident. I also had the opportunity to be with them in several social settings. They were the ultimate couple in love, always laughing and loving life with each other. I never saw any indication of anger or displeasure between them. After Gary had his accident, Sara continued to keep me posted on his recovery process. In the begining Sara was very upbeat about his condition. As time went on and certain things happened, she began to feel like an outsider. She was given more and more restrictions about her interactions with her husband. Things like being told she could not kiss him or take him outside in a wheelchair. Sara told me that on several occasions when she went to see Gary, she found his bedding soiled or food on his clothing among other things.
Here I must tell you that Sara is a very strong willed lady who will tell someone exactly what is on her mind. That being said, Sara very pointedly told the nuses and staff how she felt about the care being given to Gary. I truely believe that there are grudges being held against Sara because of this. She told them about things that she noticed and they did not want to hear them. Again there were more restrictions placed on Sara. As the son of a great lady who worked with elderly patients at a home for older people, I know first hand how some of them were treated. My mom would tell me about the condition that she sometimes found her patients in when her shift reported. Many of her stories sounded just like Sara's, soiled bedding, soiled clothing among other things.
It is my true feeling that Gary would be in the very best of hands if Sara were allowed to take him home for the remainder of his time here on earth. Sara has continued her fight for Gary out of the deepest love between a man and woman. All of us would be blessed to have a lifemate that loves us with the love and dedication that Sara has for her beloved Gary.

Oh, man, Carrie! What a deplorable world in which we live! This story is sadness upon sadness. I simply cannot imagine having to deal with this kind of situation. Who are these “authorities” to place this man, who has committed no crime, under “arrest,” and then basically pass the “death sentence” on him? How can they come between husband and wife? I tell you, Carrie, this makes blood shoot out of my eyes (as Beck would say).

Hi Gina! Those in power seem to think it is okay to kill Gary off, they just seem to want to do it themselves. I agree with you about our country. I do hope that is starting to change though. That people are opening their eyes and seeing what is REALLY happening around them.

It sounds like another Terri Shiavo-type situation. I am not familiar with this story, and I couldn't get any of the links in the article to work to learn about it. The information that's in your article is sad enough, though.

Our country is dropping into the amoral abyss. It is a terrible shame that we would have to fight in the courts for the right to keep our loved one alive with food and water!
