In a letter sent to members of the committee of the Medicaid Reimbursement Study, GOP Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Scott Munsterman expressed concern over proposals for taxes on health care plans at the federal level, and taxes on health care services at the state level.

President Obama’s health care tax proposals are “terminally doomed to a legislative death,” noted Republican candidate for Governor, Dr. Scott Munsterman. Dr. Munsterman told a South Dakota legislative committee reviewing Medicaid reform that “Similarly, any proposals to tax health care at the state level should be rejected immediately.”

He called for a legislative resolution adopting a “no taxes on health care” position to rebuild taxpayer confidence in our state and federal government.

Munsterman cited alternatives for health care reform from his book “A Vision for South Dakota.” “Wellness, equal access to health care providers and financial common sense by government would be a good start,” he said. “Leadership for accomplishing health care reform will best come from health care providers who know the problems, live with them daily and have the trust of their patients.”

Munsterman said Senator Thune and Governor Rounds are “tuned in” to South Dakota taxpayer views on health care reform and are emerging as national advocates to stop the “Washington train wreck”.
