Republican Candidate for Governor Scott Munsterman has kicked off a tour of 42 South Dakota communities to discuss an issue that’s at the top of many people’s minds lately – The availability and the expense of health care in South Dakota.

“Quality health care and finding health insurance at affordable rates aren’t just speaking points for my campaign,” Munsterman said. “As a health care provider for 25 years, I’m the only candidate in the race who understands how important this topic is to South Dakotans. While other candidates are sending out press releases saying they know the issue, I’ve been spending my time on the front lines every day delivering health care services.”

“I’m holding these Health Care Summits not just because I practice the healing arts. I’m also one of those who face difficult choices when it comes to my family’s health insurance coverage. My wife Mary Jeanne and I face this issue every day as a result of her having successfully battled cancer. I’m in a similar position as many South Dakotans where previous bouts of illness can make it difficult if not impossible to find insurance. And the prospect of facing illness without coverage makes me fearful for my family. That’s why I’m committed to find answers for our health care crisis. It’s a problem that can and does affect us all. Munsterman said.”

Munsterman cited several points in his plan for addressing health care as they were written in his book “A Vision for South Dakota.” “I often cite my book as the start of my conversation with South Dakota, and in this conversation, I’m offering several points for addressing health care in our state, such as:

  • Implementing a Community Health Care Plan
  • Planning and funding a strategic long-term care solution
  • Designing a proactive health care financial model
  • Working to provide basic health care for all South Dakotans

“This issue is too big for politicians to decide alone. We need to have a conversation together to find the best solution,” Munsterman said. “I believe we can control our own destiny in South Dakota through good strategic planning.”

Munsterman’s Health Care Discussion tour has him travelling to several South Dakota communities such as Castlewood, Custer, Watertown, Hill City, Lead Rapid City, Hot Springs, Sisseton, Britton, Milbank, Onida, Mitchell, Parker, and other cities which are in the process of being scheduled.

Munsterman’s complete plan on health care and several other topics can be reviewed in his book as posted on his website atwww.munstermanforgovernor.com
