Global Warming Profiteers Exposed: AGW Is Not and Never Was a Crisis

Christopher Monckton says in the July 2009 issue of SPPI Monthly CO2 Report that it simply cannot be credibly argued that anthropogenic global warming is some kind of catastrophe warranting the sacrifice of our freedom and prosperity.

No longer can it be credibly argued that “global warming” is worse than previously thought. No longer can it be argued that “global warming” was, is, or will be any sort of global crisis. Recent papers in the peer-reviewed literature, combined with streams of data from satellites and thermometers, now provide a complete picture of why it is that the UN’s climate panel, the worldwide political class, and other “global warming” profiteers are wrong in their assumption that the enterprises of humankind will disastrously warm the Earth.

The global surface temperature record, which we update and publish every month, has shown no statistically-significant “global warming” for almost 15 years. Statistically-significant global cooling has now persisted for very nearly eight years. Even a strong el Nino – expected in the coming months – will be unlikely to reverse the cooling trend.

More significantly, the ARGO bathythermographs deployed throughout the world’s oceans since 2003 show that the top 400 fathoms of the oceans, where it is agreed between all parties that at least 80% of all heat caused by manmade “global warming” must accumulate, have been cooling over the past six years. That now prolonged ocean cooling is fatal to the “official” theory that “global warming” will happen on anything other than a minute scale.

Even before this, there was a host of information that tells any reasonable person that the hypothesis of anthropogenic global warming is full of hot air and nothing else.

As Melanie Phillips at the Spectator points out, claims of “consensus” are a joke (as does the 30,000 scientists who have signed the Oregon Petition against anthropogenic global warming) based on sloppy, flawed and disingenuous “science.”  This includes Al Gore’s favorite toy: the discredited “hockey stick.”

As I said a couple of days ago as I cataloged just a few of those facts:

If Greenland was warm enough 1,000 years ago (when there were no SUVs or power plants) to be colonized by the Vikings and sustain vineyards, then the current state of the climate (when most of Greenland is covered by ice) cannot rationally be blamed on human activity.

If temperature data going back hundreds of years (long before there were SUVs driven by evilcapitalists) tracks with solar activity (and it does) including colder and warmer periods, then the current global temperatures cannot rationally be blamed on human activity.

If NASA data agrees with other data that solar activity is cyclic and corresponds to global temperature (and it does), then the current global temperatures cannot rationally be blamed on human activity.

When we see solar activity diminish, and we see global temperatures level off correspondingly (while human industrial activity has not diminished), then recent global warming cannot be rationally blamed on human activity.

If historical examination of the Peruvian ice cap shows higher global temperatures in the past (when there were no SUVs and coal-burning power plants), then the current global temperatures cannot rationally be blamed on human activity.

If other planets like Mars and Jupiter (where there are no evil capitalist-driven SUVs and coal-burning power plants) are warming, too (and they are), then current global temperatures on earth cannot be rationally blamed on human activity.

Even the claims of Gore and other earth-worshippers that there is “consensus” and this is “settled science” are a farce, with thousands of scientists refusing to drink the Koolaid and scientific organizations around the world declaring the emperor has no clothes, blowing claims of “consensus” completely out of the water.

In other words, if we open our eyes and take a look around us and at history, and we see global temperatures and temperature changes in the past that obviously had nothing to do with human industrial activity (because there was no industrial activity), it quickly becomes apparent that the theory of anthropogenic global warming is ludicrous in the extreme.

This is nothing but a manufactured “crisis” designed to (a) keep plenty of taxpayer-funded research dollars flowing to scientists and bureaucrats who would rather make an easy buck than do something useful, and (b) engineer the government control and wealth redistribution that socialists have long yearned for.

The asinine cap and trade global warming tax passed in the House by a thin margin in June, and now socialists in the Senate are looking to sneak an even worse version of it past the American people.

The socialists in congress either haven’t figured out that this snake oil doesn’t sell anymore and this record doesn’t spin anymore, or they flat don’t care that the American people see through their scam.

But they’re going to find out big-time at the voting booth if they insist on pushing this assault on the American people and our way of life into law…

    AGW CO2 is only 0,001224 % part of the atmosphere!!
    It should be clear to everybody that such a futile quantity can NEVER be cause of global warming.
    So this fact alone should neutralize all protracted intimidations propagated by the CO2 "alarmists".

    It's so simple to discredit AGW. One question does it. Is there ANY climate or weather event happening today that is beyond normal variation? Nope, not one. There is no physical scientific way one can parse out a natural climate event from a "man made" event. You cannot just look at the past 100 years to make any kind of trend. You have to go back thousands of years. Once you do that, you will see that what is happening today is just normal decadal, and century long cycles.

    AGW is the weapon the UN is wealding on governmnents in order to form a dictatorial socialist one world government.

    ...the rest of the story. Cosmic radiation is at its highest ever measured which is happening because the earth’s magnetic shield is down, as a consequence, climate is changing and always will. The climate celebrities, however, are linking climate and the economy. We can likely kick much of the carbon economy sometime late the twenty-first century, but we must not rush to judgement for the wrong reason. Yes, there has been warming to end the Pleistocene. Climate is a chaotic system; the facts and the hypotheses do not support CO2 as a serious 'pollutant'. In fact, it is plant fertilizer and seriously important to all life on the planet. It is the red herring used to unwind our economy. That issue makes the science relevant.
    Sulphate from volcanoes can have a catastrophic effect, but water vapour is far more important. Water vapour (0.4% overall by volume in air, but 1 – 4 % near the surface) is the most effective green house blanket followed by methane (0.0001745%). The third ranking gas is CO2 (0.0383%), and it does not correlate well with global warming or cooling either; in fact, CO2 in the atmosphere trails warming which is clear natural evidence for its well-studied inverse solubility in water: CO2 dissolves rapidly in cold water and bubbles rapidly out of warm water. The equilibrium in seawater is very high; making seawater a great 'sink'; CO2 is 34 times more soluble in water than air is soluble in water.
    CO2 has been rising and Earth and her oceans have been warming. However, the correlation trails. Correlation, moreover, is not causation. The causation is under scientific review, however, and while the radiation from the sun varies only in the fourth decimal place, the magnetism is awesome.
    “Using a box of air in a Copenhagen lab, physicists traced the growth of clusters of molecules of the kind that build cloud condensation nuclei. These are specks of sulphuric acid on which cloud droplets form. High-energy particles driven through the laboratory ceiling by exploded stars far away in the Galaxy - the cosmic rays - liberate electrons in the air, which help the molecular clusters to form much faster than climate scientists have modeled in the atmosphere. That may explain the link between cosmic rays, cloudiness and climate change.”
    As I understand it, the hypothesis of the Danish National Space Center goes as follows:
    Quiet sun allows the geomagnetic shield to drop. Incoming galactic cosmic ray flux creates more low-level clouds, more snow, and more albedo effect as more is heat reflected resulting in a colder climate.
    Active sun has an enhanced magnetic field which induces Earth’s geomagnetic shield response. Earth has fewer low-level clouds, less rain, snow and ice, and less albedo (less heat reflected) producing a warmer climate.
    That is how the bulk of climate change works, coupled with (modulated by) sunspot peak frequency there are cycles of global warming and cooling like waves in the ocean. When the waves are closely spaced, all the planets warm; when the waves are spaced farther apart, all the planets cool.
    The change in cloud cover is only a small percentage, and the ultimate cause of the solar magnetic cycle may be cyclicity in the Sun-Jupiter centre of gravity. We await more on that.
    Although the post 60s warming period appears to be over, it has allowed the principal green house gas, water vapour, to kick in with more humidity, clouds, rain and snow depending on where you live to provide the negative feedback that scientists use to explain the existence of complex life on Earth for 550 million years. Ancient sedimentary rocks and paleontological evidence indicate the planet has had abundant liquid water over the entire span. The planet heats and cools naturally and our gasses are the thermostat. Nothing unusual is going on except for the Orwellian politics.

    Yeah, it's a hoax. That's why the Arctic ice cap is a fraction of what it was at ANY time in recorded history. That's why glaciers all over the world are a fraction of their size just 75 years ago.

    It's true that there have been climatic changes in the past. It's also true that humans create greenhouse gases in amounts large enough to either negate any cooling trends or accelerate warming. Nobody that I know has ever said that humans are the ONLY cause of warming,

    As for the NASA report, the actual quote that's pertinent to this discussion is "the vast majority of climatologists believe that increases in the sun's energy have contributed only slightly to recent warming."

    Let's hope that whatever is causing the climate to warm doesn't cause such shifts in wind patterns to cause decades-long drought in America's grain-producing areas. If you look at news reports over the last few years, EVERY REGION of the U.S. has experienced at least a couple of years of drought, with the exception of the Northeast. Since that area isn't a major food producer, that's not a good sign for domestic production.
  • Did you bother to stop and ponder anything at all that I said, or is Al Gore's BS just too rich a diet for you to give up?

    Do you realize that Greenland (which is now mostly covered in ice) was warm enough 1,000 years ago (looooooong before SUVs and evil American capitalists) to plant and grow vineyards? I wonder what diabolical form of capitalism was burning up the planet then?

    If you'd pull your head out of Al Gore's bum long enough to look around a little, you'd also realize droughts come and go--it's a part of the natural cyclic change that occurs on God's green earth. South Dakota went through droughts back in the 1980s...followed by wet years...to be followed by drought years in the 2000's...and had the wettest summer this year that we've had in who knows how long. And the warming trend has stabilized and actually reversed in the last few years. I guess according to your "whatever happened last" method of determining the future, global warming is over--so go celebrate!

    God went to the trouble to make you a human being instead of a house plant, and to give you a brain. The least you could do would be to not act like a house plant, and to use that wonderful brain He gave you.

    I don't mean to be so hard on you, brucel, but my goodness I laid common sense out for you on a silver platter, I led your horse to water, and it's frustrating to see that he still can't bring himself to drink.

    Any time someone has to make a point of claiming a scientific "consensus" about something, that should turn on the bright red flashing light of suspicion. There wouldn't have to be a claim of "consensus" unless there was a controversy, and there wouldn't be a controversy if someone wasn't lying.
