Second Annual Pulpit Freedom Sunday This Weekend

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is announcing the second annual Pulpit Freedom Sunday coming up on September 27. Pulpit Freedom Sunday is part of the ADF Pulpit Initiative, an effort designed to promote and secure the First Amendment rights of churches and pastors to speak the truth in the public square. This freedom has been threatened for decades by an unconstitutional 1954 amendment to the tax code.

Muslim Prayer Rally Inspires Christian Prayers

An unprecedented Muslim prayer rally to take place on Capitol Hill Friday afternoon has Christian leaders responding with calls for prayer and fasting of their own. At 1 p.m. Friday on the west side of the Capitol, tens of thousands of Muslims are expected to gather and pray. The event, called “Islam on Capitol Hill,” is organized by Hassen Abdellah, a lawyer who is president of the Dar-ul-Islam mosque in Elizabeth, N.J.

Liberal Alliance Seeks to Redefine Marriage in California

More than 40 Calif.-based groups are backing a new effort to strike out language in the state constitution that defines marriage between a man and a woman. The groups – led by Los Angeles-based Love Honor Cherish – filed a new ballot proposal with the State of California Thursday as a first step toward getting a measure that redefines marriage on the November 2010 ballot.
