UCLA Study: Homosexuals Seek Medical Treatment Twice as Often as Heterosexuals

j0402701Homosexual activists have long tried very hard to deny the tremendous health risks associated with homosexual behavior. These health risks are numerous and have been documented by many researchers and health agencies that are (normally) considered unimpeachable.

Claims that homosexual behavior is normal, natural and healthy grow continually harder and harder to defend, leaving it apparent to most people that this emperor’s new clothes really aren’t there at all.

UPI reports the latest study to point out this fallacy:

The study was conducted by UCLA scientists and involved data from a survey of more than 2,000 Californians.

The researchers found 48.5 percent of gay lesbian or bisexual individuals said they participated in treatment during the past year, compared with 22.5 percent of heterosexuals. Lesbians and bisexual women were most likely to receive treatment and heterosexual men were the least likely.

“It is well known that health services utilization is greater among women generally,” researcher Susan Cochran said. “Here we have shown that minority sexual orientation is also an important consideration. Lesbians and bisexual women appear to be approximately twice as likely as heterosexual women to report having received recent treatment for mental health or substance use disorders.

More than twice as many homosexuals participated in treatment as heterosexuals. Double the risk of health problems. That is compelling, indeed.

If we were talking about a different behavior, such as smoking or using alcohol, there would be no question whatsoever that such behaviors should be solidly discouraged. In fact, smoking, alcohol abuse and recreational drug used have been strongly discouraged even in public campaigns for decades.

Yet because homosexual behavior has become a politically correct–and politically protected–sexual behavior, we hear only crickets when it comes to the dangers of this behavior.

In addition to 72% of male AIDS cases (CDC) being tied to homosexual behavior, along with other increased risks (gonorrhea, Syphilis, anal cancer, hepatitis, depression, substance abuse, suicide, domestic violence, etc), there are spiritual dangers that come with this lifestyle.

When the conscience within us (that reminds us of what is right and what is wrong) is continually ignored and rejected, a mental and emotional price is paid. That price usually manifests itself in the elevated mental and emotional problems prevalent in the homosexual community. Our conscience exists to keep us oriented toward a healthy relationship with our Creator, and habitually performing a behavior our Creator has made very clear is wrong, damages our conscience, our minds and bodies, and puts our relationship with our Creator in jeopardy.

How long will society, including many otherwise responsible professionals, continue to pretend the dangers of homosexual behavior do not exist? How long will we as a society pat homosexuals on the back for the behavior that is destroying them?

Encouraging someone to risk their health and their soul cannot under any circumstances be considered a loving act.

Thank you, Bob, for your eloquent words. I'm so glad there are warriors for Christ still fighting the good fight. It can be very discouraging and disconcerting to see so many Christians succumbing to the secular way of thinking.
  • Brian Rutledge
Bob I noticed that you earlier said that animals are fallen as well as mankind. Does that mean all animals ? Sponges, minnows or even the simplest of species with only a few cells cells in them? What about bacteria or plants-they are living . Not sure where exactly to reference this, but is there a line drawn where some living things are fallen and some aren't ?
  • The Bible says all of creation fell under the curse because all of creation was place under humanity's dominion.

It's first referenced in Genesis 3, and again in Romans 8:19-22.
  • Brian Rutledge
Thanks for the Biblical references in Genesis and Romans. Trying to get a better grip on the theology. I understand what the consequences to mankind are since it is fallen. But what would be the consequences to.... say... a sponge or to some innocuous organism residing deep in the sea ?
  • It's late and I'm tired (just saw a great movie with my wife), but in brief, it would essentially be the same genetic malfunctions, susceptibility to disease, decay and death that afflict all life forms in creation. Plant and animal life isn't subject to the same sin nature and moral failings as human beings (since they aren't sentient, don't have a moral conscience, an eternal soul, or moral accountability to God), but they're subject to basically the same physical manifestations of the curse.
  • Brian Rutledge
Got it. Also, glad that you and your wife actually saw a ' great movie '. A rare phenomena these days. My wife and I usually wind up renting an 'oldie' because most of the stuff we see at the theaters is pretty poor quality. It is a shame because we enjoy getting out so much
  • I know what you mean. So much of today's offerings is either shallow, rot, or shallow rot.
  • I also want to add that you conveniently left off the next two paragraphs, which are very important to understand the study results.

The researchers speculate the increased use of healthcare might be the result of higher exposure to discrimination, violence and other stressful life events.

"The pervasive and historically rooted societal pathologizing of homosexuality may contribute to this propensity for treatment by construing homosexuality and issues associated with it as mental health problems," she added.
  • I'm not real keen on perpetuating propaganda and excuses, which is exactly what that is.

Even if homosexuals were unfairly oppressed, oppressed peoples throughout history have endured such conditions without resorting to substance abuse and suicide.

Claims of epidemics of violence against homosexuals are also utter propaganda. Our society has become very "tolerant" of this dangerous and immoral behavior, and the miniscule number of "hate crimes" in this country--as born out by the statistics--also reveals this for the lie that it is.

Do you still profess to be a Christian? If you were a serious Christian, you would understand the Biblical teaching that immoral behavior has many consequences, one of which is the mental and emotional toll paid by the perpetrator. Sin takes a mental and emotional toll on the sinner because they have a built-in conscience which reminds them that what they are doing wrong; this can be beaten down and desensitized, but it never goes away completely. Even secular statistics and findings bear out that when people are habitually engaged in immoral behaviors for long periods of time, mental and emotional problems almost always ensue.

Instead of making excuses for people to continue in a behavior that jeopardizes their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, you should instead--especially as a professing Christian--attempt to tell those caught up in this dangerous and immoral behavior the truth, and help them obtain freedom from bondage to this disorientation.

When we condone or even encourage immoral behavior, we share in the guilt for it and for the consequences.
  • Bob, I feel very sad for you because your sin of pride that blinds you to accepting other humans as they are.

It's also sad that you have such a low opinion of animals, and cling to the medieval assumption that our species has a special claim on history. This flies in the face of everything we observe in the natural world, and could lead to the end of our own species if we don't figure this out soon.

I guess you don't know my dog, who is a wonderful moral example (most days). If only I could love half as unconditionally.
  • Well, I guess if you think humans (created in the image of God) are on a par with animals, it's no wonder you think so little of homosexuals...or God. Apparently if human beings act no better than mindless animals, they're just living up to their potential, eh?

And apparently God was a liar about pretty much everything he said, including his design for human sexuality being between a man and a woman in marriage, that homosexual behavior was a violation of that, and that human beings were his crowning achievement, with dominion over all God's creation.

If you want to jeopardize your eternal soul by peddling such garbage, I suppose you're entitled to do so. But I hope you're not calling yourself a Christian anymore. Associating such erroneous, evil rot with Christ is a discredit to Him, endangering other human beings, and opening yourself up to a world of eternal hurt.

I hope you turn it around before it's too late. God is merciful, but you have to abandon your allegiance to sin and to these lies before you can receive that mercy.
  • Eph 4:29: Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.

Somehow, I doubt that threatening people with damnation was really what Paul had in mind.
  • You are truly deceived, Curtis, but you are right that Ephesians 4:29 applies to what I told you. No evil came out of my mouth; indeed, I countered the evil that came out of your mouth in trying to lead people deeper into sin. You should follow the advice of this verse. I tried to edify you (if you check, you'll find that the dictionary tells us that to "edify" is "to instruct and improve especially in moral and religious knowledge." It's a pity that was wasted on you.

Don't allow yourself to be deceived into being an agent for evil, so blinded that you try to use God's very words of truth to try and justify evil, to use words of life to point yourself and others toward death.

While you have your Bible handy, you might also consider these bits of wisdom from God:

When I say to a wicked man, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for [a] his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself. Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself. - Ezekiel 3:18-21

And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him" - Luke 17:1-3

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. - Romans 1:21

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery... - Galatians 5:19

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. - Hebrews 13:4

For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. - Jude 1:4

In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. - Jude 1:7

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Turn to the truth, Curtis. As Christ said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
  • You are quite selective with your selection of sins. My personal devotions and my intellectual life (which I refuse to separate) have led me to believe that the sins of pride, racism and especially apathy are much more dangerous than anything sexual, which you seem to be pretty focused on.

The parable of the Good Samaritan comes to mind. Remember the priest was by all accounts a very righteous man. In today's context, the Samaritan was probably a LGBT atheist.

    Namaste, Bob!
  • I'm not selective at all. Whatever God has said is wrong is wrong. You, on the other hand, like to cherry pick what you'll believe and what you don't believe. How would you like it if your children cherry picked which of your instructions they'd obey and which they wouldn't? I don't think you'd appreciate that very well, both for the offense to your authority and with regard to the danger they could be placing themselves in.

Pride, racism and apathy are sins that should be avoided just as homosexual behavior should be avoided. To paraphrase Christ, you should have obeyed the former without disobeying the latter.

In today's context I doubt very seriously the Samaritan was a homosexual atheist; I hope you're just making a bad joke and not simply pulling more nonsense out of the air in a vain attempt to justify the unjustifiable. Given that homosexuals make up less than 3% of the population, and there is no reason to believe it has ever been much different than that--especially in Israel, there's a 97% chance he wasn't. And Samaritans typically worshiped God, though they were shut out of Jewish culture.

I can't know your heart, whether you actually do have some level of genuine relationship with Christ, but Christ did say we would be known by our fruits. And your fruits are dark and rotten, Curtis. To espouse the words of death and encourage people to indulge in sin is in no way a fruit of the Spirit or in keeping with the teachings of God. You laud those who live in open, defiant sin; those who reject God's very existence, and your closing betrays a Hindu inclination.

The Good Lord knows I'm not perfect, but you should stop bringing such discredit on Christ by spouting words of death while claiming you are a follower of Christ. Not only does it dishonor Christ, it may lead the ignorant further into sin, and you will have not only your own sins to your charge, but a share in others as well.

I sincerely hope you repent before that bill comes due. God is not willing that any should perish, but if we insist, he'll let us.
  • > It's hard to ignore the truth about homosexuality

Uh, like it occurs in the animal kingdom, some folks are just born gay and it's part of the wonderful diversity of humanity, and God shows no favorites so arguing about whether gays are qualified for the ministry is a total waste of effort for Christians?
  • harvey50
Homosexuality is a choice and cost the taxpayers millions of dollars just as smooking does. You can change your ways by asking God to be your personal savior. Please consider changeing your lifestyle, life is wonderful after salvation.
  • DCM
No, I'm talking about the *actual*, unpopular truth, not the popular substitutes for it. BTW, some of us already know the story behind the "born gay" myth, and we're not going to forget what we know about it just for the sake of what other people want to believe.

It might do you good to hear what someone like Sy Rogers (now *there's* a name you don't read in the liberal media) has to day. On the surface he would appear to be a veritable poster child for the idea of "born gay," and yet he's walked away from his unhealthy past and is living a normal (i.e., heterosexual) life as successfully as anyone. He dwells in a place that you don't even believe exists. And people like him aren't going to go away just for the sake of what other people want to believe, either.
  • DCM
...that should be "has to *say*".
  • Animals are also a part of a fallen world. However, unlike animals, human beings have a conscience, intelligence and a will. Human beings don't have to act on instinct and impulse. I would like to believe that you think better of homosexuals than that they are akin to mindless animals who can't control their behavior.

God does indeed show no favorites. He will judge and punish homosexual behavior just as he will theft, lying, gossip, and every other sin. And God makes it painfully clear that people involved in ministry are held to an even higher standard of moral excellence than the average Christian.
  • DCM
It's hard to ignore the truth about homosexuality, and yet that truth would seem to require so much of homosexuals that it's no wonder they want to reject it. To them I would say: The truth requires hard things from all of us; and in that sense, at least, you're not all that different from everyone else.
