Senator Thune Town Hall: Health Care Penalties for Noncompliance

Senator John Thune (R-SD)

Senator John Thune (R-SD)

In this question from yesterday’s town hall meeting with Senator John Thune (R-SD) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, the questioner asked that if this bill passes, and there is a revolt by the doctors and taxpayers and they refuse to live under this bill, what retribution will the government take?

Thune replied that small businesses that doesn’t offer health insurance has a “pay or play” mandate that requires up to 8% of payroll tax has to be paid to the government. If you’re a small business and file an individual income tax return, you get a 5.4% surtax added to your top marginal tax rate. And if you’re an individual who doesn’t buy insurance, you pay a 2.5% tax.

In other words, they’re going to hammer you if you want to continue running your own life as free Americans have done for over 200 years.

Like that stuff about keeping your own health care if you like it, no taxpayer funding for abortion, not beginning a government takeover of the health care industry, no rationing, no measuring the value of a human life, and so on, the illusion of freedom under this government health care bill is just that: an illusion.

This unconstitutional, enemy-of-freedom bill must be stopped at all costs for the health of our republic and individual Americans.
