Proponents of government health care, including President Barack Obama himself, have made claims that abortion will not be allowed in the government health care plan.
In doing so, they engage in the very deception and misinformation of which they accuse opponents of socialized health care.
Obama and other socialists say that because the health care plan does not specifically allow abortion, this means it will not be allowed. Yet when abortion opponents in congress have attempted to add amendments specifically prohibiting abortion, they are rebuffed and voted down.
Any reasonable person would ask, “If they claim the bill won’t support abortion, yet they adamantly refuse to specifically prohibit it, what does that tell me?” Any reasonable person would also conclude: “That means it does –or will at some point–allow abortion.”
Also, anyone who has watched how modern liberal government operates knows that unless something is specifically and totally without exception prohibited, lawless people will exploit to infer permission. The same observant person knows that abortion advocates are particularly determined to kill inconvenient children, and will leave no loophole or excuse unexploited.
But now a Democratic Congresswoman admitted to her California constituents gathered at a town-hall meeting what the Obama administration has tried desperately to keep quiet: the health care reform bill covers abortions.
LifeSiteNews reports on a San Jose town-hall where Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) let the cat out of the bag:
“We know that over 90 percent of abortions are purely elective, not medically necessary. Why is this being covered when abortion is not clearly health care,” Ignacio Reyes, a local pro-life advocate, asked Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Cali.) at a San Jose town-hall meeting.
As the applause for Reyes subsided, Lofgren, who represents California’s 16th Congressional District, responded that the proposed Congressional reforms included “a basic benefit plan developed by health professionals.”
“Abortion will be covered as a benefit by one or more of the healthcare plans available to Americans, and I think it should be,” said Logren, eliciting jeers and protests from the crowd.
You can see that exchange in the video below.
Reyes is absolutely correct that the vast majority of abortions are done for elective reasons, reasons of convenience. Statistics here in South Dakota show that more than 84% of abortions are done because “The mother did not desire to have the child.” More controversial reasons like rape and serious health hazards only make up 0.4% and 1.5% respectively. And remember, as Cash for Clunkers illustrates, what the taxpayers subsidize, you get more of.
The LifeSiteNews article also goes on to point out an amendment to HR 3200 which has thus far remained off the radar of public discussion. That amendment is the Capps Amendment which explicitly mandates abortion coverage in the government health care plan.
The Capps Amendment explicitly mandates that the public health insurance option – which aims to provide for 46 million Americans who now lack coverage – will cover abortions through federal funding not restricted by the Hyde amendment. The Hyde amendment, which must be renewed on an annual basis, only prohibits federal funding going to the Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) from paying for abortion. But as the AP report confirmed, that leaves open other streams of federal funding, which under the health bill (HR 3200) could be used to subsidize abortion.
As you see, the death culture has found a way to get around the Hyde Amendment to use YOUR money paid in taxes to kill innocent children. So how does it feel to face the prospect of going to work each day to pay for innocent children to be ripped apart in the womb and killed?
It also mandates that every region in the country will have at least one health plan that offers abortion.
By this point, it should be very clear just who is peddling the lies and disinformation in this issue: proponents of this unconstitutional government takeover of health care.
Just as they are lying to you about AARP’s supposed endorsement of this government takeover.
Just as they are lying to you about their intent to go to a full government single payer system.
Just as they are lying to you about rationing and getting old people out of the way under a government system
So don’t let them brazenly lie to your face anymore–on this or any other part of this un-American scheme.
