Dakota Voice Week in Review, Ending August 29, 2009
These are the best of the best at Dakota Voice last week. You made them that because you read them in large numbers and often left many comments on them.
If you missed one the first time around or simply want to read one again, now is your chance.
Judge: Abortionists Must Tell Women Abortion Terminates a Human Life - Women seeking an abortion must be told that the procedure ends a human life, a federal judge ruled Thursday, upholding part of a South Dakota law. U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier said doctors must disclose to pregnant women that “the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being.”
Judge Orders Homeschooler into Public School for Being Too Religious – A New Hampshire judge finds no problem academically with a homeschooled child, but considers the child too religious and lacking some youthful characteristics. Based on the judge’s published opinion, these “youthful characteristics” the child lacks seem to be “moral ambiguity,” “immaturity,” “ethical confusion,” and “uncertainty.” This unconstitutional decision is offensive to American principles on a number of levels.
Hardball’s Chris Matthews Plays Hard to Get – Chris Matthews MSNBC’s “Hardball” made the claim two weeks ago that he didn’t know of any senior citizens who’s had a complaint about Medicare. No wonder: he refuses to talk to a Medicare expert who could point him to a host of Medicare problems. Ignorance is bliss.
The VA’s Death Book a Model for Obamacare - The alarm that Sarah Palin raised with her report of “death panels” in HR 3200 (and they are there!) seems a little more credible when we consider what the VA has been telling veterans for several years. In a none-too-subtle booklet vets are lead to consider whether “life is worth living” and to make decisions about end-of-life care that could shorten their lives, in some cases quite prematurely. Don’t we owe our veterans better? Don’t Americans deserve better?
Marine Takes Oath Seriously, Why Don’t Congressmen? – Washington state resident and Marine David Hedrick takes his oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” seriously, and wants to know why some congressmen couldn’t seem to care less about their oath?
Church Drops ‘Lutheran’ From Name after Pro-Homosexual Vote - The sign outside the church would usually read St. Timothy Lutheran Church. But the word “Lutheran” has been covered over and now simply reads St. Timothy Church. Said Rev. Richard Mahan: “I asked that be done because I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed of what the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has done to a church I’ve loved for 40 years.”
Rep Jim Moran Has ID Check of Constituent at Town Hall – Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) demanded to see the ID of a constituent before he would allow the constituent to ask a question. Apparently he finds it so unfathomable that someone could possibly oppose the most benevolent Government god’s bestowal of the blessing of government health care that he believes his constituent is a plant.
Senate Wants Presidential Control of the Internet - When control of the banking industry isn’t enough, and control of the auto industry isn’t enough, and control of the energy industry isn’t enough, and even control of the health care industry isn’t enough…where’s a power-addicted socialists supposed to turn? How about the internet? So says a Senate bill to give the president power to shut down the internet…and the “New Media” that’s a thorn in his side?
1,700 Prison Inmates Mistakenly Receive Stimulus Funds – The federal government sent $425,000 of your tax dollars to prison inmates in the form of stimulus checks. I can’t wait for them to run my health care, can you?
Students Challenge to Learn All They Can About Evolution – As students step foot on campus for another school year, an intelligent design proponent has offered a few tips for the millions who will face the teaching of evolution in their science classrooms. Tip number one, “never opt out of learning evolution,” says Casey Luskin, co-founder of the Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Center, according to the Discovery Institute. “In fact, learn about evolution every chance you get.”
