Citizens for Liberty Dissatisfied with Congressional Attendance at Town Hall
KOTA News is covering the recent controversy surrounding Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin’s appearance at a Rapid City Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group luncheon, and the upcoming Town Hall and Recess Rally Sponsored by Citizens for Liberty on Saturday, August 22 at 1:00 pm.
South Dakota Sen. Gordon Howie, (R) District 30, asked Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D), and Senators Tim Johnson (D), and John Thune (R), to attend a free and open forum to discuss healthcare.
All three refused to attend, but plan to send representatives from their offices.
Howie said that’s not enough.
“Which surprises me. I would think that our three representatives would feel that they owe it to the voters, to the taxpayers to come see us face to face,” Howie said.
The public was invited to meet with Herseth Sandlin to discuss the healthcare issue at a Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group luncheon.
But recently, it was changed to members only.

Citizens for Liberty says invitations to the Recess Rally are going out to thousands of Rapid City residents today. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend whether they receive a personal invitation or not.
All West River South Dakota legislators of both parties have been invited to this event and many are expected to be on hand. The event will be at the Veteran’s Memorial in Memorial Park in Rapid City near the intersection of Omaha St. and Mt. Rushmore Road.
Citizens for Liberty will have a float in the Central States Fair parade in Rapid City before the event.
There will be sign-waving along the street between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm–as has been done in two recent Tea Parties–for those concerned about government health care.
