Cap and Trade: Hitting the People from All Sides
More and more people are waking up to and speaking out on the dangers this cap and trade global warming tax presents to the American people and the people of South Dakota.
From the Rapid City Journal:
Cool it on global warming.
That was the call from business, coal industry and agricultural representatives Tuesday in Rapid City during a panel discussion on energy reform. They warned that electrical bills in western South Dakota and elsewhere will rise, and the economy could fall, if fears over climate change lead Congress to push through overly aggressive reform package.
And the heartland of America could be hardest hit, as states that rely on coal, oil and natural gas bear the brunt of fossil-fuel restrictions, Wyoming state Rep. Thomas Lubnau of Gillette said.
You might recall that a few months ago, South Dakota Public Utilities Commissioner Dusty Johnson told us this cap and trade global warming tax would increase our electric bills by 40% here in South Dakota. Some states may be hit with increases of 48% or more.
The Heritage Foundation also did a study of the incredible economic damage this scheme will do not only to the country as a whole, but how it would particularly affect each state like South Dakota.
All this to stop a problem that doesn’t even exist in the first place! In reality, it’s nothing but a thinly-veiled wealth redistribution scheme.
But that’s just the beginning. It will also jeopardize development of new power plants, hamper our refining capacity, cripple our international trade, contains indecipherable passages that will no doubt be used to our disadvantage, quash our freedom with things like shower Nazis and inspections and environmental retrofitting of your home before you can sell it, wipe out millions of jobs, and burden us with a host of new government mandates.
I’m still not done. In addition to all this damage it will do to us personally and through the private sector, expect yet another assault on your prosperity through more direct taxes.
CNS News reports that not only will private companies and industries be saddled with compliance costs, so will government agencies. And since government has no money of it’s own, you the American taxpayer will foot the bill for this, too.
A new Government Accountability Office (GAO) study says that all levels of government – federal, state, and local – will have to come up with a total of $16.6 billion in additional revenue to purchase carbon allowances, if cap-and-trade – to allegedly combat global warming — is enacted into law. Experts say this could prompt increases in taxes.
This is the second government report to estimate that the proposed climate-change legislation, formally known as the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, will eventually cost consumers more.
The U.S. House was contemptuous enough of the American people to already pass this bill. We must stop this in the Senate.
Fortunately South Dakota has a strong ally in the Senate to help stop this assault on the American people.
