A Look at Government Health Care: Go to the Reservation

South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds is weighing in on the proposed government takeover of health care, and he’s talking about experience with government health care that many other states many not have.

Rounds says one need only look at the state of government-supplied Native American health care to see what an abysmal failure socialized health care is.

From the Rapid City Journal:

South Dakotans who like the idea of more government involvement in medical care need only look at the Indian Health Service to see how easily things can go wrong, Gov. Mike Rounds says.

“Right now in South Dakota, we’ve got one of the best examples of a health-care system run amok, and that is Indian health,” Rounds said in an interview with the Journal. “And I wouldn’t wish that health care on anybody. It would be an absolute disaster in America.”

I have visited Native American friends in Indian health care facilities…and it’s pretty bad.  I’m just talking about the physical condition of the buildings, not the wait times, quality of care, etc., which are a whole other story.

You might recall the scandal a few years ago when the terrible conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (paint peeling off the walls, etc.) were revealed.  Well, military and veteran heath care isn’t the only U.S. government  health care that is pathetic.  I’ve seen the same kind of peeling paint, etc. in government-run Indian Health Service facilities as well.

Those who attended the Rapid City Tax Day Tea Party heard Ira Taken Alive tell from his personal knowledge why socialism and government programs are highly inefficient.

If you want to see living examples of why we need to keep government limited, as Ira said, “Go to the Reservation.”

Governor Rounds is absolutly right.I live in northeast Oklahoma Right in the middle of the Cherokee Nation. They have clinics in several small towns and two Hospitals one in Tahlequah Okla. and one in Claremore Okla. birth place of Will Rogers. A typical day at one of these clinics is never less than 5 hours and most of the time all day.Medicine,if its very expensive you have go to town to buy it ,they dont keep any expensive medicine they dont have the funds. At least 50 percent of the time they are either short a doctor or a nurse,Hardley ever have a Dentist. Now the hospitals are a differnt story,if you go there to see a Dr its an all day waite. They only have Drs who are paying back student loans or have been caught cheating medicare so they really dont care. They treat these people as if they are something else besides human. If you need to see a specalist ,if you are lucky enough to get permission you have to go to Oklahoma City a four hour drive. They lost all their specalist in Tulsa because of slow pay.Iam not knocking the CherokeeNation they just get by with what they have but the way they treat people i have a problem with. These are facts,if you want a good look at govt.run health care these indian hospitals are the place to go.Its sad what the have to live with, most are under the poverty level and have no other choice. This is what is in our future if Obama -Pelosi and the other liberals get their way.So call all your congressmen and let them know you do not want govt.health care.If you get the opportunity go by one of the indian hosp.and take a look....Harvey .....Jay,Oklahoma
