Now the president is on national television second guessing police officers because his friend was arrested? And, of course, the arrest must have been the result of racial profiling because the man arrested was black? It couldn’t possibly be because Henry Louis Gates, Jr. acted inappropriately when approached legitimately as a result of a call of a possible burglary in progress?

I’m betting that if Sgt. Crowley, the so-called racist cop, didn’t verify that Gates belonged in the house and that all was well, but had instead simply said, “Oh, you live here? Sorry to have bothered you. Good day, Sir,” we would have been hearing how he was a racist that didn’t care about the well-being of a black man.

It’s bad enough when cops second guess cops, because there really are no “routine” calls or events, but it is even more inappropriate for an untrained president to decide whether a call was handled properly or not, especially without all the facts. And it is definitely inappropriate for the president to immediately throw out the idea that there was racial profiling, without the facts and without considering his friend might have been the one in the wrong.

Gates is expecting apologies? For what?

Gates should have appreciated the fact that the officers responding to the call cared whether his house was being broken into or not. He should have appreciated the fact that they were making sure he was the owner, rather than someone that didn’t belong there. Oh, but no; he was enraged because they were trying to protect his property? He failed to immediately obey the lawful command of an officer, but he should be excused? After all, he is black and he believes unwelcomed behavior towards him or as a result of his behavior must be racially motivated?

I believe Gates and President Obama owe Sgt. Crowley and all other wrongly accused officers an apology.

I also believe that Obama is unfairly using his office, his position, to influence the outcome in the situation involving Gates.

Didn’t Governor Palin have an ethics complaint filed against her because she was somehow supposedly using her position to get donations for a trust fund created by supporters for the legal fees related to previous unfounded ethic complaints filed against her?

If just being governor means Palin is using her position to gain donations to a fund set up by others that she has no control over, what about a president that is using his position to second guess officers and influence the outcome of a situation involving his friend?

Obama was elected President of the United States of America. He was not elected Federal Police Commissioner, Judge nor Jury. He should not use his position to gain special treatment for his friends.

After all, what if it hadn’t been Gates in the house that day or Gates was being held hostage and Sgt. Crowley just walked away?

What then, Mr. President? What then?
