Watching the Obama Administration take hold of the United States government over the past six months has been like being caught up in a bad dream where there seems to be no end to the dread.
Back in February, I cataloged the long list of radicals, death-culture advocates and subversives President Obama had appointed to the Justice Department. These individuals have an extensive record of championing the killing of unborn children, promoting the homosexual agenda, promoting pornography, undermining marriage, and undermining military readiness.
When the department charged with enforcing the nation’s laws and Constitution is staffed by people hostile to the welfare of our republic and the individuals in that republic, you know you’re in trouble. But unfortunately the bad news didn’t stop there.
In March I outlined still more members of Obama’s “dream team” for tearing down the United States. Harold Koh was nominated to the position of State Department legal adviser. Koh has claimed that the U.S. Constitution should be interpreted in light of the “norms” of other nations around the world (many of whom wouldn’t know freedom if it slapped them in the face), compared the United States to “axis of evil” nations, praised communist dictators, and championed poor legal reasoning so long as it accomplishes the desired liberal ends. Koh was confirmed by the Senate a few weeks ago.
Then in April we learned about George Soros crony and the new adviser to Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Michelle Fluornoy, Rosa Brooks. Brooks believes al-Qaida was an “obscure group” that just got lucky on 911 and was turned into a massive threat because President Bush fought them. She called President Bush “our torturer in chief” and a “psychotic who need(s) treatment” and compared him to Adolf Hitler. Brooks also called the surge in Iraq (which succeeded brilliantly) a “feckless plan.” Nothing like someone who loathes those who defend our country and minimizes those who killed nearly 3,000 Americans in one day as a leader in our Department of Defense, eh?
Now we learn, thanks to Americans for Prosperity and Newsbusters that the Obama Administration’s “Green Jobs” czar, Van Jones, is an environmental extremist with a communist and racial radicalism background. It seems we have a black red trying to force America to go green (not “green” as in free market wealth, but environmentalist green).
Newsbusters quotes a discussion on Fox News on July 10 with Phil Kerpen of Americans for Prosperity on Jones’ radical background:
BRIAN KILMEADE, co-host, “Fox and Friends”: Phil, we have a czar, he’s a green jobs czar, he’s Van Jones, he’s got a deep history in communism.
PHIL KERPEN, AFP Policy Director: He does. He has a very checkered past. This is somebody who was involved in radical politics out in San Francisco, California. He was arrested during a demonstration/riot following the Rodney King verdict. And he said himself that he was radicalized in jail, that he found communism and anarchism. And then he started a pretty radical, kind of communist, socialist, utopian group that was supposed to end all racism though central planning. And then he decided that the real path the sort of progressive nirvana, was the this green jobs idea. I think its pretty instructive what his past is, I am not just trying to smear the guy, but I think it’s the same sort of philosophy, the idea that government ought to be reordering society in accordance with some utopian vision that failed with communism and socialism, and will fail with this green jobs idea. We are imposing a top-down vision.
The East Bay Express has a very lengthy article about Jones and his activist past, written in 2005. Here are a few telling excerpts:
But that wasn’t enough to assuage his anger. Convinced that American society needed a wake-up call on race, Jones abandoned his plan to become a journalist, concluding that he would rather make news than report it. “If I’d been in another country, I probably would have joined some underground guerrilla sect,” he said.
…while Jones was observing the first large rally since the lifting of the city’s state of emergency [during the Rodney King riots], he got swept up in mass arrests. It was a turning point in his life.
Jones had planned to move to Washington, DC, and had already landed a job and an apartment there. But in jail, he said, “I met all these young radical people of color — I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of.'” Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. “I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary.” In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. “I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th,” he said. “By August, I was a communist.“
In 1994, the young activists formed a socialist collective, Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, which held study groups on the theories of Marx and Lenin and dreamed of a multiracial socialist utopia. They protested police brutality and got arrested for crashing through police barricades.
“I realized that there are a lot of people who are capitalists — shudder, shudder — who are really committed to…”
His new philosophy emphasizes effectiveness, which he believes is inextricably tied to unity. He still considers himself a revolutionary, just a more effective one, who has realized that the progressive left’s insistence on remaining a counterculture destroys its potential as a political movement.
We have long seen the close connections between the worldwide environmentalist movement and Marxism. They have long shared the same anti-business, anti-free market, anti-freedom agenda and methods of thuggish intimidation. Like many Marxists, Jones has recognized that the environmentalist movement makes a great vehicle to advance Marxism.
You may also recall that when the Soviet empire fell, their last dictator, Mikhail Gorbachev, jumped ship to plant his flag on the ocean liner of environmentalism. Gorbachev continues to call for global revolution, only now he has exchanged the red flag for the green flag. Just last Friday, July 10, he had an article published in the Sidney Morning Herald calling for “a second American revolution” in the environmentalist spirit.
There was really no doubt about Barack Obama’s Marxist leanings. He made it clear with his words before the election, and he has made it clear with his actions since taking office. And he has surrounded himself with Marxists in our American government.
Even if the United States was conquered by a communist nation and our government was replaced by foreign officials, it would be hard to imagine a bigger collection of people hostile to the U.S. Constitution and the American way of life.
As bad as the current state of affairs in American government is, one aspect of this situation is still worse: we weren’t taken over by foreign Marxists, we elected the architects of our own destruction.
