Dems Refuse to Pledge to Read Bills Before Signing
Why do we elect representatives to go to Washington?
Do we elect them to represent us? Do we elect them to learn about the issues and make an informed decision about legislation dealing with those issues, and to vote accordingly? Do we elect them to make decisions in our – the people’s — best interest?
How can they possibly do the job we have elected them to do–much less fulfill their oath of office–if they haven’t even read the bills they vote on?
Let Freedom Ring has asked all 535 members of the House and Senate to read and sign a pledge not to vote affirmatively on any health care bill they have not read.
The pledge reads
I _________ pledge to my constitutents and to the American people that I will not vote to enact any healthcare reform package that: 1) I have not read, personally, in its entirety; and, 2) Has not been available, in its entirety, to the American people on the internet for at least 72 hours, so that they can read it too.
That shouldn’t be too much to ask, should it?
Let Freedom Ring has released the names of those who have signed, and will soon begin publicity campaigns thanking those who have signed and taking to task those who have not.
While it has been mostly Democrats who have refused to sign this pledge, there are more than a few Republican names missing from this list as well.
