Citizens for Liberty Press Conference, Pennington County Court House

Citizens for Liberty, the group that brought the Tax Day Tea Party to Rapid City on April 15, held a press conference this morning at the Pennington County Court House.

The purpose of the press conference was to announce the Independence Day Tea Party to be held tomorrow in Memorial Park from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, and to introduce the Citizens for Liberty group to the public.

The following is a statement issued at the press conference by Gordon Howie, the head of Citizens for Liberty:

Thank you for coming to our press conference. I will read a brief statement and then take questions.

The mission of Citizens for Liberty is to promote limited government. Therefore:

  • We will resist irresponsible tax and spend policies.
  • We will defend our state and federal constitutions.
  • We will clearly and passionately communicate principles of limited government to the citizens of our state.
  • We will hold our elected officials accountable to principles of limited government.
  • We will recruit, encourage, support and endorse candidates who will embrace our mission statement.

Tomorrow from 9:00 to 11:00 am we will hold a rally at the Memorial Park bandshell to provide information on two proposed government programs: Cap and Trade, and government managed health care.We expect a large gathering of people who agree with us that these two programs would be “hazardous to our country’s health”. We also welcome those who would like more information on these two programs.

All accross this state and our nation, people are standing up to send a message to our elected officials. That message is simple. We expect them to represent us through limited, responsible government. We will not accept the sweeping reforms that steal our freedom and cripple our economy. To those officials who will not listen to us, we have another message….. You are fired. We will take over from here!!

Thanks for coming this morning. I will take a few questions.
