Witness Intimidation in the Global Warming Debate?
Worshippers of the religion of global warming want people to think they are just good-natured, environmentally-conscious folk who want to save our planet and everything on it from apocalypse.
While I am sure there are a few worshippers who do fit that bill, most of those pulling the strings behind this, the biggest hoax ever attempted to be perpetrated on humanity, aren’t nearly so benevolent in their intentions…or methods.
The herd instinct is strong in most people. Humans were, after all, created to be social creatures. But like all things in this fallen world, our natural instincts are easily corrupted and distorted. We often find that need for approval and affirmation from others quickly dominating our intelligence, with peer pressure winning out over common sense and what would otherwise be quite obvious. So it is that otherwise intelligent people are able to ignore the obvious (that shining ball of fire in the sky and the heat that comes from it, global warming on Mars and Jupiter, the historical evidence of climate fluctuations going back thousands of years, etc.) and place their faith in a theory that doesn’t even pass the smell test.
There are also those who are more educated and involved in accumulating climate data. We like to think that people who are highly educated are above all that, that they are not subject to the same fallacies brought on by peer pressure, that they would never allow petty things (fears, insecurities, biases, assumptions, peer pressure) to override their intellect. When we make this assumption, we forget that even scientists are first and foremost human, with the same weaknesses as the rest of us. Recognizing this, it should come as no surprise that a recent study found that a significant portion of the professional community has falsified and fabricated “data,” and that more than a few have even admitted to doing so.
Then there are those who will go the extra mile to ensure things are done their way. They aren’t merely the gullible. They aren’t just the ignorant. They aren’t merely the ones fudging the data. They aren’t simply the ones caught up in the herd instinct; they are the ones working hard to direct the herd. They are the ones who will use coercion, intimidation and whatever force they see necessary to accomplish their ends.
The Hill reports on charges in congress that Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), a key architect of the cap-and-trade global warming tax bill, is trying to intimidate witnesses on this issue.
Republicans have seized on a letter – a copy of which was obtained by The Hill – that Markey penned to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jon Wellinghoff asking FERC to investigate the actions of a major energy company on the same day that the company’s CEO was set to testify before the energy panel on the dangers of a carbon cap and trade system.
According to the June 9 letter, Markey requested that Wellinghoff probe how thoroughly MidAmerican Energy Holdings – a $41 billion company in which Warren Buffet is a major investor – followed up on promises to invest as much as $15 billion in electric transmission expansion in the wake of the repeal of the Public Utility Holding Company Act in 2005.
In fact, Markey singled out MidAmerican Energy to also ask FERC to look into his concerns “that the repeal of PUHCA has also freed large multi-state public utility companies to diversify into other potentially risky business, to the potential detriment of utility investors and consumers.”
SOP for anything which pokes holes in their fantasy (which is most of the objective data) is to intimidate it, block it, sweep it under the rug, or ignore it. Just a few months ago, the Socialists, er, Democrats in congress refused to allow Britain’s Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, to testify on April 24, 2009 alongside High Priest Al Gore during global warming hearings.
From Climate Depot:
According to Monckton, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee, had invited him to go head to head with Gore and testify at the hearing on Capitol Hill Friday. But Monckton now says that when his airplane from London landed in the U.S. on Thursday, he was informed that the former Vice-President had “chickened out” and there would be no joint appearance. Gore is scheduled to testify on Friday to the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment’s fourth day of hearings on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. The hearing will be held in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building.
According to Monckton, House Democrats told the Republican committee staff earlier this week that they would be putting forward an unnamed ‘celebrity’ as their star witness Friday at a multi-panel climate hearing examining the House global warming bill. The “celebrity” witness turned out to be Gore. Monckton said the GOP replied they would respond to the Democrats’ “celebrity” with an unnamed “celebrity” of their own. But Monckton claims that when the Democrats were told who the GOP witness would be, they refused to allow him to testify alongside Gore.
Democrats and other socialists in congress know they have an uphill battle for this, the biggest tax in American history, and they need to remove every bit of opposition they can to keep the American people pacified.
After all, the more more Americans who realize this insane bill will raise their electric bills 40% or more and destroy thousands of jobs–all to maybe lower global temperatures 9/100ths of a degree over 40 years–, the tougher time they are going to have passing the bill.
And many Democrats are already preparing to cut and run on this monstrosity.
So did Rep. Markey try to intimidate witnesses who would give testimony damaging to his tax intentions? Hopefully that will come out. But in the meantime, what does common sense say? I know common sense is a foreign concept to many worshippers of the religion of global warming, but perhaps you aren’t a worshipper; perhaps you’re still weighing the evidence and trying to make up your mind.
What do you think? Are you prepared to see your electric bill go up and possibly lose your job, all so spenders in government can take more of your money to spend on more wastful programs…all for a big hoax?
