Obama to Push UN Law Which Undermines Parents

j0438654Back in the 1990s liberals pushed to get the United States to sign on to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Convention on the Rights of the child would ostensibly foster respect for the care, development and needs of children.

Like many things that come out of the UN, it sounds pretty good on the surface, but below the hype and sweet talk, it’s bad news for the American way of life.

Now CNS News reports the liberals are making a fresh push to subject Americans to this:

The Obama administration is reviving efforts to have the United States sign onto a global children’s rights treaty ratified by every U.N. member except the U.S. and Somalia, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, said Monday.

Administration officials are actively discussing “when and how it might be possible to join,” Rice, a Cabinet-level official, said while visiting a school in Harlem and fielding a teenager’s specific question about the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.

While one might consider better treatment for children in some of the usual cesspools around the world to be a good thing, once again the Convention on the Rights of the Child would certainly be treated as all measures passed by the UN area treated: law-abiding nations like the U.S. would be expected to toe the line (thus surrendering our sovereignty and our way of life), while the backwards, oppressive nations will get a pass to continue mistreating their own people.

This convention would undermine parental rights by providing a platform to emancipate children from the authority of their parents.  Of course, parents will be expected to provide all the needs of their children…and all the wants of their children.  If children want something, and the almighty state agrees they should have it, then the parents will have to dance.  And if the parents feel the need to spank or otherwise strongly discipline an unruly child, the parent will quickly find that they are a criminal.  They will quickly find that the child, and the child’s guardian (the state), are in charge in the home.

Michael Farris explained a couple of months ago a couple of ways how this usurpation of parental authority would take place:

The law in every American state allows parents to administer reasonable spankings to discipline their children. The UN’s official body on children’s rights has repeatedly ruled that any parental spanking violates the treaty’s requirements. The CRC will trump state laws permitting spanking.

Many school districts allow parents to allow their children to “opt out” from certain controversial courses such as sex education. The UN body holds that such parental involvement violates the treaty. The CRC will trump all state “opt out” laws.

Meanwhile, the moral fiber, cohesiveness and order of society will shift into a still higher gear in its descent into the abyss.

This is one more ultra-Leftist piece of bad news that good Americans in Washington and on the main streets of America should strongly oppose.

  • Mr. Brown,
I want to be the first to respond to your recent blog post. Thanks to the freedom of speech we enjoy in this country, we can each openly voice our opinions here. However, given the tone of your response, it is obvious that freedom does not force respect. Please, despite your clear disagreement, show respect for those who disagree with you (and many do).
    -- Point by Point
Being a pediatrician myself, I have learned that "studies" can be designed to show whatever you want them to show. I agree that studies show "effectiveness" of sex education, although you could help your case if you provide references next time. However, maybe you should consider two things. First, what else is taught in those classes? Homosexuality? "Safe Sex"? Second, read these two studies about sex education and reconsider your position.

    - From there, you obviously have a problem with mixing of religion and government. You apparently do not have any historical understanding of how our country was formed. You have rights because religion guided our country's founders in developing a government by the people. Please explain your basis for good and evil if there is no God or religion.
    - Another clear point I want to highlight: Senator Boxer supports the UN treaty, as does Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, and President Obama. If these main supporters are not considered liberal, then I am not sure who is labeled liberal.
-Finally, your random assortment of examples, "chocolate" and "clan" and "insane religious views" show that you miss the point and show your bias. That is all I have to say about that.
I expect a rebuttal to these comments. I request respect.

I would add to Mr. Brown that so called "tolerance" uphold by "liberals" or "wise people" demands treating every side of social discussions equally on every matter. I may ask if "wise" parent would spontaneously consent to loose his parental laws if any "religious wierdo" would convict his child to become a "sectarian" and when this parent will be willing to stop such "bad" influence, on the basis of the law, would be deprived of parental laws? I really would like to know the answer. Atheism is also religion. Greets from Poland.
  • Good point, Mikolaj.

Greetings back to you in Poland!
  • Well said, Dr. Potter. I commend you for your efforts to bring this abomination to the light. If parental rights are are a matter for the state to control, then we have no rights at all. If I cannot raise my children as I see fit (who loves children more than their parents), then I would lose control of my own person and that which is most precious to me. This is a hill that I am willing to die on.

I'm sorry Bob, but your bias here is disgusting. Do not call "Sex Ed" controversial it has been proven that students that do not take it are more at risk for STD's and teen pregnancy. Also do not call the pushers of this "liberals" call them "intelligent people", because republicans and democrats also support it. Also please people stop saying anything about Jesus. Separation of Church and state needs to be upheld. You should not be allowed to force religion on your child. Let them decide. After all religion is the only science that has/will never be proven. You also paraphrase this treaty in bogus ways. "All the wants of children" is not the case. If a child says "I want chocolate" the treaty does not say you have to give it to them. It means that a child, finally, does not have to blindly follow their parents. This will be a relief to children of Clan members and insane religious views. I'm sorry but parents need to lose some rights we've given them too much. THIS IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILDREN. People read the whole treaty for yourselves do not let some bible thumping, far-right wing nut, tell you his INTERPRETATION of it.

What a disturbing act of government. I wonder what our founding fathers would say to this! May our leaders turn from their wicked ways and turn to Jesus.
  • Good evening Amercia,
I am pouring time, effort, and my own money into battling the Convention the Rights of the Child. I have spent hours studying this treaty and the issues surrounding it. This treaty will drastically alter the way parental rights have been practiced in America for over 200 years. Parents must understand how this one little treaty will give the government pervasive power over their children. Of all the issues facing us today, this one is by far the most dangerous of all, yet is getting the least press. Please study this issue and begin to tell others about it, so we can force our elected leaders to listen to us.
    Sincerely,
    Tennessee Director for Parental Rights.Org
