Israeli PM Netanyahu on Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions

CNS News reports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during an interview with “Meet the Press” yesterday that he believes there is an American commitment to ensure Iran doesn’t get nuclear weapons.
I really like Netanyahu, and I’ll just say that I hope he knows something which otherwise is not in evidence, because I don’t see a whole lot of backbone from the Obama administration about anything…except maybe a determination to undermine freedom and the American way of life.
As far as foreign tinpots go, I haven’t seen a whole lot of reason for them to fear anything from the United States.
From the CNS News article, Netanyahu provides a brief summary of why nuclear weapons must not be allowed to come into the hands of the belligerent Iranian government:
Earlier in the interview, Netanyahu explained why he did not believe Iran could be trusted with a nuclear weapon and why he believes the United States as well as Israel’s neighbors in the Middle East shared this view.
“It’s been calling for the, the denial of the Holocaust,” said Netanyahu of the Iranian regime. “It’s threatening to wipe Israel off the map. It’s pursuing nuclear weapons. To that effect it’s sponsoring terror against us, but throughout the world.”
“To have such a regime acquire nuclear weapons is to risk the fact that they might give it to terrorists or give terrorists a nuclear umbrella,” said Netanyahu. “That is a departure in the security of the Middle East and the world, certainly in the security of my country, and so I wouldn’t treat the subject so lightly. Would a regime change be a game changer? A policy change would be a game changer.”
As the Iranian elections show (beyond the unrest and crackdowns), regime change right now would just be trading one hostile Iranian leader for another. What is really needed is a leader who isn’t bent on being the #1 sponsor of terrorism in the world, and wiping Israel off the map.
But with the Obama Administration busy running around the world bowing to foreign despots and apologizing for America to anyone who will listen isn’t going to do much to deter evil governments like the on in Iran.
