Cost of Cap and Trade Bill by Congressional District

j0401099The Heritage Foundation has come out with a new state by state analysis of the cost of the Waxman-Markey cap and trade global warming tax bill which will be voted on in the House tomorrow.

Here’s an overall look at the big-picture impact to our country:

An analysis of the Waxman-Markey bill (as reported out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce) by The Heritage Foundation found that unemployment will increase by nearly 2 million in 2012, the first year of the program, and reach nearly 2.5 million in 2035, the last year of the analysis. Total GDP loss by 2035 would be $9.4 trillion. The national debt would balloon as the economy slowed, saddling a family of four with $114,915 of additional national debt. Families would also suffer, as the bill would slap the equivalent of a $4,609 tax on a family of four by 2035

That’s a heck of a price tag just to cut temperatures 9/100ths of a degree in the next 40 years!

But the report also has a breakdown by congressional district.

Here in South Dakota, we only have one district, served by Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.

GSP Loss
in 2012
(in Millions)

GSP Loss in 2012 (in Millions)=–$389.98

Average GSP Loss,2012–2035 (in Millions)=–$776.42

Personal Income Loss in 2012 (in Millions)=–$508.49

Average Personal Income Loss, 2012 –2035 (in Millions)=$294.50

Non-Farm Job Loss in 2012=–4,489

Average Non-Farm Job Loss, 2012–2035=–2,718

Are you willing to take this kind of economic damage and pay this kind of personal cost, just to indulge global warming fantasies–indulging a problem that doesn’t even exist?

By fantasy do you mean virtually unanimous understanding within the scientific community that climate change is real and is happening?

or by fantasy do you mean a heretic group of over-opinionated under-educated individuals who are afraid of obvious action vs reaction logic.

action - globally we take 85 million barrels of oil a DAY and burn it into the atmosphere

reaction - changes are occurring in the lower atmosphere and related biosphere from our decision to pollute

what's difficult to understand about this?... if a volcano were to be steadily erupting 85 million barrels worth of pollution into the atmosphere, we would understand that it could have an effect, but the almighty human.... our intentions are pure, so we couldn't possibly have any negative impact on a fragile system that we are taking such great care of.

Cap and Trade is completely necessary... no one is asking 'what will it cost to NOT put a value on carbon emissions'... businesses and industry are spoiled rotten by being able to pollute for free. You say that $9.4 trillion GDP will be lost by 2035... why don't you ask the question of how much can be saved with increased regulation? $9.4 trillion could be DWARFED by business solutions aimed at providing clean technology solutions, being able to maintain crop production, less frequent hurricanes, fires, droughts, and the cost to rebuild... the list goes on and on.

I do agree though that more dialogue needs to happen regarding Cap and Trade... most people don't even know what it means! Trying to silently force an agenda through congress is not a winning solution, republican or democrat.
  • Yes, Mark, virtually every scientist believes in anthropogenic global warming...except the tens of thousands who have gone on record expressing their skepticism. Yes, that "settled science."

I know Al Gore would like to believe everybody is worshipping at his church, but the truth is thousands of scientists are not, and the number is growing. The number of people who reject this nonsense is also growing. The reason: the evidence that comes in pointing toward natural cyclic climate change, and the more time people get to think about it, it becomes abundantly apparent how foolish the whole idea is.

A few terrestrial volcanoes alone spew out more greenhouse gases than human activity. That's not even considering what comes from the ocean. And that's also not considering what comes from the underwater volcanoes which are also belching out huge volumes of gas.

And all that is assuming that the earth can't regulate these gases, and the temperature...when in fact there is great evidence that the planet does in fact regulate these factors, and does a very nice job of it (one might almost say, intelligently designed :-)

Cap and trade is nothing but a socialist wealth redistribution scheme. Only a fraction of the money stolen for this ripoff is being designated toward clean energy sources; any bets the rest will go to pay for some new unconstitutional social program? And the estimates are that it will lower the temperature by a whopping 9.100ths of one degree in the next 40 years? Woopie!

If this monstrous fraud gets passed, it will be the biggest ripoff, biggest theft, and the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on a group of people in history. And it will probably mean a Republican congress next year...not that those idiots are much better, but they'll definitely be better than the current bunch of contemptuous anti-Americans running the show.

Now that it has passed the House...you think the Senate will fall apart too and loose them integrity by passing it and letting this potus sign it into law?
  • Unfortunately the Senate is usually more liberal than the House. But if the people make their voice heard and turn up the heat enough...
