‘See what you made me do?’ asks the offender

j0438653The article, “Miss California Keeping Title … for Now” (Monday, May 11, 2009) by Associated Press writer John Rogers is more revealing than any pictures that might have been taken of young Carrie Prejean. It’s unbelievably so.

“Prejean, 21, of San Diego, created controversy during the Miss USA pageant when she answered a judge’s question by saying she believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman,” writes Rogers.

Prejean, 21, of San Diego, CREATED the controversy? Excuse me?

Prejean didn’t bring up or volunteer her opinion about gay marriage at the pageant–she was asked. So if someone is going to be blamed for creating the controversy, it should be the one that created it. It should be the one that asked the inappropriate question at the inappropriate time in the first place. But it gets even better.

Rogers writes, “Lewis said the state pageant has never criticized Prejean for her beliefs, but he added that Miss California USA must represent everyone in the state.”

Well then, since Miss California USA must represent “everyone” in the state, does this mean that she must say she approves of murderers committing murder, and child molesters molesting children, and abusers abusing their victims or might she say that she doesn’t? However, if she is allowed to say that she doesn’t approve, doesn’t that then mean that she is failing to represent “certain peoples” in spite of the fact that Lewis says that “everyone” must be represented?

So which is it?

Is Miss California USA required to represent anyone and everyone and therefore not allowed to have an opinion that offends anyone at all, or are there only certain groups of people that one might not offend?

It would seem the answer is obvious. Politically correct list 101.
