Rapid City Tea Party Becomes Citizens for Liberty

"Don't Tread On Me" from the Rapid City Tax Day Tea Party

The latest meeting of the folks who organized Rapid City’s Tax Day Tea Party was held yesterday, and lots of exciting stuff is on the way!

In the rush to join the national Tax Day Tea Party grassroots movement, 40 or 50 folks from the Black Hills area came together quickly without formalizing much of anything to do with their group.

The result was a great event attended by 1,500+ people and a great start to returning our federal government to accountability and Constitutional limits.  Even before the April 15 event, we knew we were just getting started.

Yesterday our group approved a formal name for ourselves: Citizens for Liberty.

We are already at work identifying and recruiting candidates for local offices who believe in limited government–candidates from any party.  Additionally, we are in the research phase of planning workshops to equip such candidates to run good races and win.

Citizens for Liberty is also planning another event similar to the Tax Day Tea Party for July 4; details will be forthcoming as they are locked in.  Nationally, 740 or more events are already scheduled for July 4, and more are bound to come. Since Independence Day will be on a Saturday this year, and not a work day as April 15 was, this event is likely to surpass the Tax Day Tea Party in size.

A group website is also in the works where people in and around the Rapid City area can check upcoming events and stay informed on tax-and-spend limited government issues on a federal, state and local level.  We hope to have that website up and running in the next week or two.

We are also networking with other like-minded groups, including the Northern Hills Patriots of Spearfish.  One of their members, Gary Velder, was in attendance at our meeting yesterday and I stay in regular email contact with leader Bill Nachatilo.

Big government liberals in Washington and their friends in the “mainstream” media were certainly hoping the Tax Day Tea Party was a flash in the pan, and that most patriotic Americans would just go back to sleep as they have been for far too long.

But we have news for them: it’s daybreak in America, and we’re ready for the work we have to do.  We want our country, our Constitution, our property and our freedom back.

And we won’t stop until our great nation is back on the wise and stable track the Founders planned for it.

If you love your country, come join us!
