Gallup:More Americans Pro-Life

A Gallup report published today shows that, for the first time since 1995 when Gallup began polling this question, more Americans consider themselves pro-life than pro-choice.

This flies in the face of the conventional wisdom of Democrats and “moderate” Republicans alike.

Rush Limbaugh has discussed recently the movement within some Republicans circles to distance themselves from the abortion issue considering it a millstone around the neck of the party. Some advocate discarding the issue completely from the party platform.

This report is further evidence that America is still a conservative nation and that conservative values, when properly articulated by an effective leadership, are a winning strategy at election time.

I have an election poster on the wall of my office with a large smiling photo of Ronald Reagan in a work shirt and cowboy hat with the caption across it reading “The Time Is Now.”

It is indeed, but do we have another Ronald Reagan to carry the banner?

The increase in anti-abortion sentiment must mean that people are getting better informed -- about what really goes on in the womb, and about the false arguments & hypocritical stances of the pro-abortion side.

This is an issue that does not have to be controversial. Abortion can be kept "safe, legal & rare" as many pro-choicers say -- rare because it would only be used when really needed (mainly, to save the mother's life). The controversy is there because abortion is profitable, and providers have a vested interest in keeping it very, very common, and in convincing people it should be.
